I Came Across The World To Find My 'self'
Growing up I never had any interest in boys, or later men in college. I refused to get married out of pressure and fear. I didn't have sex. With anyone. At 26 a male friend who already had a green card in America offered to take me to the US but to do so I had to get married. He agreed to leave me alone as long as I didn't interfere with his dating around. On the outside I was married, but nothing happened in bed.
In the US I found work with a small company. My husband had work for a large company, he is an IT engineer. We rented a nice place for me, close to our Temple. But away from the action part of town. My landlady showed me around and helped me adjust to the US. She invited me to join her literature group. I developed a dependency with her. She pushed the conversation about my feelings, I told her I wasn't a 'wife' with my husband. Then she told me I probably had a sexual attraction for women. And told me if I did that was ok, as long as I made sure to let my husband know. Don't do anything behind his back. My visa depended on staying married.
She broke the ice on a matter that I had refused to accept. Over time I met a younger woman, at our Temple. She was born in America and was open about sex with another woman. She introduced me to a book about sex with other women. She became physical and pushed me to try. Until I had to admit to myself, and of course tell my husband, that our landlady was right.
I am not sleeping around, as a matter of fact I have a son now with my husband. We both are now US Citizens. We are married ten years. My husband has his circle and I have mine. Our culture has always understood lesbian behavior, we even have a book about lesbian love making. But socially it is something we don't show outright. My first girlfriend helped me understand and accept and behave accordingly. My best friend is our landlady. Adopted me and is my mother in America.
