A New Baby Has Taken Over Our Lives, A Love Baby
I was 40, married 17 years with two teenage daughters. My husband 44. Connie his star girl on his staff, 23 her first job out if college. I suppose I should have recognized the signs but I didn't. I thought he was suffering from ED. Then at breakfast, 'by the way Connie's pregnant'. Oblivious. My answer was 'she's not married'.
What was it like? What do you think? Everyone said divorce the SOB. My husband, divorce him?
I spoke with several people. Not a lot of help. One woman friend said 'it's a baby for God's sake, you don't ruin your life, your children's life, your family over a baby'.
I consulted with my daughters, they offered to adopt the baby, two teenage girls. 'Or you adopt the baby'. My next call was to a lawyer friend of mine, not family law. A friend. 'You will go from well off to poor in two years'. She followed 'He has his job, and may marry the girl'. Only I lose.
I had a family meeting, my husband and daughters. They know Connie. She could live with us and the baby. An older new sister. My husband said he was not sorry, she is pregnant, and the solution is making room for the baby. No one goes anywhere. No divorce, his decision. I was relieved, his decision not mine.
I monitored Connie and her pregnancy, took her to the doctor for each of her visits. Young and healthy. 24 is so young and healthy. Like she's not even pregnant. I took her home with me and had my two daughters join in, new baby classes. How can someone have a Masters degree and be so disconnected with the real world? My daughters were more understanding about how life was going to change, not just for Connie, for all of us.
This love baby is now a walker, she has three adopted women looking after her, and a mother. How does one child warrant four mothers.
