Ten Years Later I Can't Believe What Happened To Me

He was in town talking to investment bankers. He sat in my section and wanted to talk. It was slow so nothing lost. I told him I had been to college for a year but dropped out because I couldn't afford it. He hinted that he was alone that night and he wanted to see me. In his talk he mentioned his hotel room. I got off and went to see him. He offered to take care of me, and to come work for him. I went to him to work the reception and be his personal secretary. When he got financing he gave me five percent founders shares.

The company did well, went public, founders shares were protected, didn't get diluted. I became office manager and later with more employees HR Director. Five years went by, my salary increased and increased and as a founder I was on the executive bonus plan. I got a condo, as a g*ft for being nice to him. A company car every year, and vacations to the Caribbean.

I turned 30 with money in the bank, 5 percent of a very viable company, a condo and a job as Vice President (of important matters). Him.

I'm not saying it's right, or becoming. I work hard, and have kept the bed warm. Maybe I should gave been happy being a waitress. But I walked across the street that night and was good company. I had no idea where it was going to take me, so I didn't do it for the money. All I know is I wake up with him, and go to bed with him. And I have more money than anyone I grew up with.

If we are doing something every day for someone else and not just doing what we want to full time we are all selling ourselves out to someone. A company, a boss, a family, a husband or wife. We’re selling our minds and bodies to someone. Sounds like you hit the lotto, good for you.
