You Have To Know When It's Time To Step Aside

My husband became more than infatuated with a girl on his team. He talked about twenty four seven, wished she was with him when we went on vacation. That she didn't return the sentiments he overlooked it and blamed it on her age. Fed up with this I asked her to lunch one Saturday at a nice enough restaurant. I walked away knowing that she was the one, I had met my husband's one true love.

She was hesitant, I asked, interrogated, why didn't she respond to him. Because it was at work, and he was married. In frustration I told her not to continue hurting him, not to let a job get between her and true love.

It took a while, several months really to get her balance and give herself to him. Awkward, incorporating her into our lives. Our first step was an overseas holiday, in a summer home in the south of France. A honeymoon for her, cooking lessons for us to pass the time. A side trip, an afternoon at a country fair. Her honeymoon helped to break the ice and build her confidence. During our stay I used the second bedroom and gave her unrestricted time with him.

He's like a boy with a new puppy, she's a new bride understanding her grown up role. What I know is that these two are made for each other, the years between them melt away when she's in his arms.

Stepping aside is not an easy decision, retiring from full time involvement. I will stay involved, the first wife, now she has her space to fill, to be his full time partner, wife number two.
