Not Much To Say, My Life That's All
I got married in college to an older student who graduated so I could go with him when he started work. I was both a student and a housewife, and I had two children. After five years I knew it was the mistake of a lifetime. I knew by then that I was a lesbian.
Divorce came with a price, giving up my children. Not difficult, a lesbian wasn't considered a good mother. I moved to the Bay Area and tried to start a life. I worked several go nowhere jobs when a position came open with the social services department, working with lesbians in trouble with the law. It was a trial, and I was hired because of my Social Services degree. And I was a lesbian. Most, if not all girls that I worked with had addiction and dependency problems.
The program obtained extensions in funding. I fell in love a hundred times, young lost girls, most uneducated, prostitutes, in trouble with the law. I met a woman, a nurse who worked at a neighborhood clinic. We became friends, lovers. Moved in together. I worked the police end, she saw many of these girls at the clinic.
Twenty five years later, the number of girls in trouble never abated. I took retirement and we got married. On our honeymoon we met a couple by chance. The husband was a lawyer, he heard my story, he found my children. We have a distant relationship, but we are talking.
