Married To My Best Friend And Soul Mate

My story is about twisted rules and laws, and things we do to get around them. My best friend is the daughter of Spaniard citizens. Her father is a banking executive with a Spanish bank here in Texas. Our dream was to go to college together. We found out at the last minute that her visa was over when she turned eighteen. She had to have her own visa, or return to Spain. Her identity is American, not European. She had to return, shattering our dream of going to college together.

As a foreign student, college cost here was out of reach for her. We concocted, our lawyer's word for it, that I go to Spain and marry her. We don't have to be lesbians to get married, there is no such litmus test. I enrolled in a language school, my parents were fully supportive, and in Spain we got married, legally, we didn't have a religious ceremony. We then applied for her visa and resident status.

We returned 'home' in March of 2017 with wedding bands, and all papers of our new status. We enrolled at UT and went 'on to college' and validated our marriage in Texas. We got her temporary residency, lived together, held ourselves out to be married, pictures, facebook, anniversaries, Christmas. We spent the lockdown together. We now have her permanent residency.

We're not lesbians, but we are married going on seven years married, no itchy feelings, nothing other than being together. We don't need to be married, her residency is secure, she will soon be getting her naturalization, but why shouldn't we? We are totally compatible, we are 100% faithful, we are happy and content and buying our first house, our condo. A long time ago we had our names aligned and we never take off our wedding bands. New friends, coworkers, college characters have only known us 'the girls'.
