Many Things Aren't What You May Think

I grew up with maids, private schools and a nice cars. I wasn't any different than my friends or the friends of my family. When I went to college at a prestigious institution I met a girl on a scholarship. I couldn't get enough asking her questions, like do people in your country live in houses. It was a few years later when I took a holiday with my family to Kenya on safari. We saw people living in huts.

I bring this up because it was my lesson in making assumptions. When we went to Nairobi with houses, shopping malls, cars everywhere, nice hotels I learned I was wrong.

All my life I've had to check my assumptions. This extends to assumptions about peoples sexual preferences. And how I deal with my sexual preference. Things are quite different today, television movies and so many people travel extensively. They would not ask such a foolish question of a girl from far away. After all these years I continue to hide my sexual persona. I married a good friend in my thirties, primarily to shield me from public scrutiny.

Today many people assume many things, pretending they know it all. I'm a widow now, my husband passed away several years ago. My private secretary has been my constant companion. She knows, and knows about other things.
