Husband Hunting When Was When I Was 24, And A Short Detour

In the eighties life was different. Women wanted older professional men to hit on them. Mostly we had clerical or secretarial work. Not getting our Mrs. out of college, we had to strike while we still had time. So, maybe he was married, but if she didn't do her job, she got fired. A man with baggage was not our first choice, but a man without baggage wasn't always the best choice either.

In my women's group there were women who ranged from 35 year old divorcees to 21, virgins right out of college. I was 24, still a virgin. My 32 year old supervisor told me Mr. right was looking for a pretty girl to make him happy. Play my cards right, you never know, his wife the rumor had it was a feminist.

The setup was a Friday night happy hour. The barmaid, with a tray of pitchers and glasses leaned over the table, her short skirt too short to cover her butt crack and light blue panties. She turned to me, 'seen enough' she asked me. I felt that feeling, that electric reaction, I squeezed my legs tight at her smile. She came back with a draft beer for me, 'here, babe, cool down a little'.

I don't know how many times she touched me, stood beside me every time she served the table. I went to the ladies' room and she followed. She asked if I was single, if I had a girlfriend. She put a folded paper down my cleavage, and with a kiss on the lips she told me she could get off early.

I never hooked up with Mr. Right that evening, I spent the night with a barmaid.

Catching a husband proved to be much harder, I settled for a divorced man with three children. Better stepmom than turning 30 without children. In time I had my two girls. As to my night with the barmaid it taught me a big lesson. You never know whose going to get you wet, so be open. My husband disbelieved me, now he's not so sure. I find it easy to smile and flirt with certain girls.
