We Are Who We Are, That's All. No Labels Please.
I am in hot water. My cousin Arlene showed up without notice. She took no time in texting that my roommate and I share a room, and the double bed. A holdover from the Pandemic when we converted one room into an office. So we like sleeping together, up close, and spooning is a nice way to wake up. If we didn't like being close at night we wouldn't have a guest room.
We've defended our ways lots of time. Sleeping together doesn't make us lesbians. We don't date, what for? Our time together is too valuable to waste it on someone we don't want to know. Yes, we say hello, good morning, I'll be back, good night with a kiss on the lips. Do we warm each other up, yes. Sometimes it just comes over us, and making love is what we do. You kiss the most important person in your life, you will make love with her too. No words can say what loving with each other can.
None of that makes us lesbians.
I know of people who never marry. Women who never have children. Men who went to war and died. None of that makes them anything, other than human beings. I want children, a household will do. She wants children, made by her. We want a family. We aren't looking to be some lame brained lesbians. We are lesbians, because that is what we are. The pandemic put us in bed together. And that's all it is. We found out, in the middle of the night, one night in the middle of a thunder storm. When holding each other was the thing to do.
