Sounds like he has a problem seeing up close? Actually I've had no problem getting my tongue into my GF's hole; eyes not needed at all. Tried to plug it while she was peeing a few times but although I can do that with a finger my tongue is just not strong enough so I get mouth fulls of her hot soup, but that's just fine as it sure beats any chicken noodle.
