Married For Money, Money Talks, Loudly

During college I hooked up with a girl. After college we went to live in Oregon. At first it was an open place, everything was legal. But after a year it was suffocating. We decided to try our luck in her home city. We had help from her parents, who were not really happy with our choices. We got jobs, in food service. Our degrees were not in demand, our jobs in Oregon were nothing but bullshit.

Through her parents' network we met a man who was looking. I got a job with him, paid better and had benefits. I didn't understand the business, they bought and sold chemicals for the textile industry. He made a lot of money, working on the telephone. It was me, and this older woman.

One day my coworker told me he thought of me, all the time. Well, if he did he didn't show it. In that conversation she said that I thought he was too old for me and I had 'that' girlfriend. Over the next several months we became closer. At one point he asked me if I had ever thought about having children. What woman hasn't? What about him, had I ever thought about him? Well, yeah, he's my boss. But the fencing ended up with him asking if I would consider marrying him.

Everyone around me said the same thing, money talks. I thought about, and agreed to get married. It was a simple ceremony. His children were there, his exwife wasn't. Marriage for purposes of procreation. Another set of children. "He can well afford a young wife and her children". He can, money isn't an issue with him, even if he is paying alimony and child support.

I'm not really in love with him, I have no problems with him either. My friendship with my friend from college continues. He doesn't seem to mind.
