My Husband's Girl, She Turned Out To Be A Mommy's Girl
Back in the days when my mother was young, women finished high school, got married, made a family and settled in. But as women stayed behind, gained weight, consumed by keeping house and raising five kids, a secretary or nurse comes along. There are only two paths to follow, sue for divorce and go broke, or welcome her, encourage her to be a good 'wife', when she is pregnant offer to help her, make sure she is taken care of.
My mother took care of 'her'. In our life 'she' was a nurse, my father a doctor. When my turn came, mind you my generation have college degrees, but keeping house, making a family, three kids not five, took us away from our careers. My husband's girlfriend turned out to be a very pretty petite girl, with a journalist degree, working in the public relations department. My husband an Exec VP.
I had forgotten my mother's words, 'you find his lover, you make her yours'. Bringing a girl around who thinks she's 'it' is a hard thing to do. I was forward, told her in no uncertain words I would not abandon my home. Her options were my terms, or not at all. It took getting my husband involved, a 'lunch' where he laid down the law. No divorce, it would destroy it all. Her role is support, and I was in charge of her allowance.
We played around with letting her live with us, our kids are college grads. She felt that she would be too much of a daughter, I have only sons. In the end we tried separate living, it sucked for everyone. Move her in, help her grow up.
Sex. I know. For him it's sex. For her it's a Daddy thing. Whether he goes to her room, or she crawls in bed because she's 'lonely' is ok with me. In the end she slips into my arms to fall asleep. Being a Mommy's girl is who she is.
