Back in college a guy moved in across the hall from me. He was older by ten years, he was doing a fellowship. It became a thing for him to come over to eat. I felt bad that he was doing his laundry and I offered to do it for him. I picked all the woman work and pretended like we were married. He left that summer and I moped around until I graduated.
After college I threw myself on every guy who wanted a girlfriend to play house. But the failure to launch kept me back. When Tom came to work he was different. He was doer and I felt it between my legs. He didn't want some bitch around. One day this other girl whispered to me that he was gay. I peed my pants, that was impossible, but he was and he liked to be dominant, and I lost al interest in him.
The years passed, and no one to marry. My dreams turned to obsession. I met a man by accident, he believed a woman's sole purpose was to conceive. He liked a woman serving him. He wanted a woman in the house, not working. A match made in heaven. But it wasn't, I couldn't love him. In college it was different, he was ten years older. And I was young. That man was not him.
I settled for an ordinary man, one who mowed the lawn and helped set the table. A man who wanted a well rounded wife, one who worked and brought home the bacon. It took me a while to understand, playing house was one thing, and that's why we have weekends.
