A Casual Comment Broke The Ice For

During the summer before my senior year in high school I was part of a church camp in South Carolina. Onn the flight to Charleston my best friend Erika was a few seats in front of me. Once the flight was on its way and the seatbelt light off, Erika stood up to come check on me. I was so pleased that she made the effort to come see me. We talked for a few minutes until the lady beside me offered to swap seats with her. After she stood up she made the comment that we were in love and we should sit together. News to us, but we sat together and when we got off she led me out holding my fingers.

Seventeen isn't the age that you want to be when you have to contemplate that you are in love with your best friend. The rest of the summer we talked about it, were we really in love or just best friends. I admit that after it was pointed out to us we were more willing to show and share affection. When we finished high school our parents signed us up for an art appreciation trip to Europe. We were roommates and we succumbed to chemistry and behaved inappropriately.

After our three week trip we had shared intimate affection. We decided to spend our college years together and share our life after graduation. Somewhere out in the wide wide world is a lady who broke the ice between us.
