In Many Ways Our Times Were Better

I'm going back to when I sixteen, Thanksgiving. My cousin was back from serving overseas, he was in Germany not VN. He was talking to me, then he touched me, gently, between my legs. I'm sure my eyes opened wide, I didn't speak. But I remembered, it felt good in a real weird way.

I was a freshman in college, I went to an outdoor show with my dormmate. We met some guys. We left to eat pizza, they got real friendly, offered us the college experience. We woke up the next morning in their apartment. I was in one room, undressed, and no longer virgin. I walked out looking for a bathroom and saw my dormmate under the arm of the other guy.

After using the bathroom, using toothpaste and my finger. I went downstairs to the other guy, the one that had slept with me. I asked him what his name was, I wanted to know in case I was pregnant. He was upset about it. But what if? Same with my dormmate. In those days girls just didn't go on birth control.

When I met the man I married I felt compelled to confess to him that I wasn't a virgin. In those days that was important. A man needed to know he wasn't marrying a virgin.
