Just An Old Fashioned Trophy Wife

Let me give you a mental picture. I'm 31, I just dropped off my kids at the xxxx preschool and stopped at the full service station to top off the Range Rover for use on the weekend. My husband owns a small business, a hobby really. Only 1,500 employees, turnover of several millions. He doesn't need the money, he's plenty wealthy. I was compliance girl in human resources.

It all started when he took me to pick up my twelve year old Explorer, base model, bad condition. On the way to the garage I told him I had to put it on my Visa and add to my never payable credit card. He asked me a question about college, I went to three schools before I graduated with an early learning degree from an online school. Lots of student debt went with it.

I got the lecture, mansplaining how I was never going to get out from under the debt. I asked him, as he was high and mighty, well how can I get out of debt. He answered quickly. I had to get married, to a man who could bail me out. Before my brain caught up with my mouth I said to him, 'well you're single why don't you marry me?'. He paid for my car, gave me another lecture on driving a piece of shit, and could I cook?

I cooked him an omelet, the way my grandma taught me, with a splash of Picante. Coffee was Keurig from his coffee maker, juice from the carton, with a half teaspoon of sugar. To be honest I had spent the night with him, and he did wake up cross-eyed. A week later he took me out of town to elope, no prenup. I had to quit work to make babies, take care of the 'mansion', a new Range Rover. The same one I gassed up for the weekend ride out to the country.

I always have slippers, a nanny and a chef girl. So no barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen. I do 'charity' work now, and help at the school when they need me. I took piano lessons and painting, but I'm a better shopper, that's my talent. He really loves me, really. Too much really. I'm not the only 'young wife' in our social circle. We do all have babies though. We have play dates and swimming lessons for the children, tennis and spa dates for us mommies. We have to keep busy, buzzing around in our respective gilded cages.

Well that's the way it is from the top of the mountain, we are weekending at the river cabin with another couple with kids the same age as ours. To work off their sugar high from their stash of Halloween candy.
