Being A Supportive Wife And Mother Does Not Make Us Pussies

I grew up in a household of dominant men. You have to learn early to pick your battles. Picking up isn't worth arguing about. Plus, I learned early, I did not want my father's job, nor my brother's either. I was ok with being the 'support' at home.

I met Josh in high school. He liked me being attentive, that I could already cook, and knew all about laundry and house keeping. What struck him was that I enjoyed it, never argued. My mother and I kept up with the house, the boys brought home the bacon.

Josh got the message early, get a job. Go to college. Marriage wasn't going to happen without him being able to support me. I would take care of the rest. Seventeen was early to lay down the law. But the law had to be laid down, marriage was serious business.

One day I told Josh, repeating after my mother, "because I serve you, does not mean I'm your servant". I also told Josh, "no nookie without a ring on my finger". I went to a close to home college and got a degree in Comparative Religions. Being a Jew in a Christian world created a lot of questions. We agreed and got along, JudeoChristian values.

Josh went to law school, became a tax attorney. He got nookie on our wedding night, the same night he confessed he had already had sex with a couple of Christian girls. So he hadn't really cheated. He 'pulled out' so they wouldn't get pregnant. He didn't pull out with me.

It was time for making a family.

Now I tell my daughters. Be strong, and do the laundry. Being the woman of the house does not mean you are a pussy. Marry with a purpose. Don't let some weakling pull your pants down. Your father, your grandfather, your uncle are your roll models. You don't have brothers, so bring home husbands. Men. And make families. Help our temple grow larger.
