Midwives And Mothers In Practice Delivering Babies

In our sophomore year we moved off campus to a crowded two bedroom with two other women. It was close to campus, but one bathroom, and a small living area and kitchen. The room had two single beds, but it was too small so we turned one bed on it's side against the wall and we shared the other bed. What could go wrong?

A year of freshman roommates in the dorm, and now living close quarters, side by side, no room to let anything be private. The bed was so small we could only sleep in a cuddle, and when cuddling we wanted 100% coverage, arms and legs and backs and fronts, touching and rubbing and hands going everywhere. Nothing was sacred, absolutely nothing, not to our hands or our lips and kisses. There was no naked or dressed, we spent all our free time cuddled and snuggled and taking deep breaths of with our nose deep in each other's business.

We joined the world of the 'girls' on campus, we had pet names for each other, and when we talked to others, she was my wife and I was her wife. We followed what we saw and tattooed our breasts with our names, we tattooed our bottoms too. We wore communal panties and were always seen on campus together. It was impossible to be with each other with out touching or holding, or giving sweet kisses. For us it was a brave new world, but all around us were hundreds of other young lesbian couples.

We saw a flyer about a lesbian seance. A world famous lesbian was speaking and we signed up for it. It was in an open forum, outside, she was to us way too much older, grey long curly hair and a smock, not a dress, and she was there with her lesbian partner. We noticed that at that age they said 'partner', not 'wife'. But we were 'wives'. And one of the things she offered, was to sanctify our 'marriage', lesbian fashion.

We were just one of several lesbian couples that got 'married' that night. It was a complete ceremony with 'do you take' and 'I pronounce you wives in the State of Oregon'. We were given a silver trinket to remember our vows, two intertwined girls under the wings of an Angel, which resembled the intertwined snakes of the Medical Caduceus. This symbol of lesbian marriage is what we had tattooed on the inside our forearms, so when we held hands we our forearms rubbed together.

Why that symbol caused us to reconsider our life paths is a mystery, but we both changed our majors and switched over to the nursing school. We both planned on becoming nurse practitioners and baby deliverers. We became licensed Midwives, as well as graduating and becoming licensed Registered Nurses. We both practiced in the underserved community, delivering babies from young expectant mothers.

A discomfort set in me, and then in her as well. It was permanent, ebbed and flowed, a nervousness that didn't go away, it got stronger and stronger. With each delivery we spent a little more time with the baby, before laying the baby on the mother's naked chest. That could be us, we talked about it over and over. Our beings were unquiet.

There was no thought, no rational discussion. Across from the landing of our apartment was a single man living. We approached him, by inviting him to a home cooked meal. Would he be willing, to give us his sperm? We were by then in a hurry. We counted, since becoming Midwives, we had delivered over a hundred babies. Just give us your sperm! But it wasn't like that, he wanted to know what was in it for him. Typical male. It took two long months to convince him, he could have SEX with both of us, anyway he wanted to. But not before agreeing he had full parental rights as the father.

We live in the 'Mother's House'. He lives in Daddy's house, across the street. The children, we have four now, are the center of our lives. We continue to be practicing Midwives, except now we know in the flesh the mother's feelings of having her just born baby laid on her naked chest to embrace.
