A Very Special Arrangement

Following college I broke up with my college girlfriend. We had grown apart, not on purpose, life with her had run its course. I returned home to decide what and where I would go. Home was never in my sights.

I got a part time job. I got around with a high school friend. I met her brother who was in college when we were in high school. He went all out on me, caught in his world, I couldn't escape. Everyone was all for it, a perfect match, right age gap, professional degreed, so I could focus on making a family. Sold, to a man to get pregnant with.

From the first day I knew I had made the biggest mistake of my life. But I was getting pregnant that night. A year went by, I was running the house, home with a three month old baby boy. And wham! pregnant again. Two kids, I was totally trapped. I had no marketable skills, and two babies a year apart kept me tied to the house.

My college girlfriend called me and I broke down. She wanted to rekindle our college romance. She came cross country to see me. Pregnant with a six month boy. She offered to stay and help, move in, get a job, help with the bills, help me with the babies and the house. My husband thought about it, agreed it was a good idea, we needed the money.

For reasons of his own, he gave us full liberties. No objections. Including accepting our romance. Why interfere, happy wife, happy life. A third pregnancy followed, then a fourth. I couldn't hold off, like a time bomb the baby fever went off, and nothing else would satisfy me, quiet me down. By the time we had two boys and two girls doubled up in each room, the house ran itself. Every day was different, every day the same.

My husband moved out after our fourth child was weaned. He moved to a two bedroom condo nearby, to give us space to fully flourish our romance. We had a two mommy house.

In our small town, where everybody knows everybody, we are that couple down the street. My husband has full visitation, full access to our house. We do not have an agreement in writing, we don't bicker, we don't fight. My romantic partner would prefer if we were married, but I won't divorce my husband. She has to occupy herself when he's around, sometimes he wants to be with his wife.
