The earlier you abort the easier it is. Two thirds of abortions in the US now involve p¡lls instead of surgery. Twelve weeks would be on the borderline, though.
Also, to avoid amplifying myths, the pill doesn't "stop working". Given its relatively high effectiveness in ideal as well as typical conditions (see Planned Parenthood's figures), most people who say they got pregnant while taking the pill were not taking the pill.
Last but not least, for even more effective methods, consider an implant or an IUD. Especially if someone has difficulty taking the pill consistently, these are fix-it-and-forget-it alternatives.
