It's Kind Of Hard Settling, But I Can't Run Away Anymore
After I recovered from a snake bite, no fun so don't let a snake bite you, I decided to take some time off for myself. I took my things that got a backpack and headed for Europe. I walked Paris, Lisbon, Amsterdam, Berlin and I kept walking. Somehow, without a direction I got off the train in Marbella. Spain eats late, and I had left my gear at a walk in hotel and walked out to get something to eat. Some tourist got my attention and I brought him back to my hotel room. I woke up, he was gone, and so was my wallet, money, passport, watch, and gold chain. Only then did I think he may have spiked my drink.
It took some time to get some money wired, get a new passport, a new debit and new credit card, so I had to wait in Marbella. I talked to a girl, she sometimes hustled tourists, she told me there was a rise in AIDS, so I should check myself. I hadn't used protection.
I spent six months with my heart in my throat until I was definitely negative. And tried to get my life going, a year gone and nothing to show for it. I took a job with my old boss and ended up in bed with him. Never even got to the weekend. I moved in with him, washed his clothes and the dishes. He took it that I was nesting with him, and put up boundaries and barriers. I took it that he was setting me up for marriage.
After months of not asking, moving forward I confronted him. He was either serious or I was leaving. The door closed behind me, and I was alone again, took my things and left town for Alaska, to go see my father. He was not happy with me, not married, unemployed, no road forward. I agreed and let a man in and moved off the grid with him. A real mountain man, he assured me that snakes didn't live there, but skunks were all around so be careful.
After a while, after winter set in I realized I was bored with him. I was stuck until spring, so kept up my side of the bargain. By the time spring broke I was pregnant. He wasn't the marrying kind, but he agreed to it. We got married in town with my father.
My problem is easy to figure out, I like men who aren't serious, I want new and adventure, I'm not the settling kind, and I'm tied down with a kid on the hip and another one in the oven. The Wildman, he's used to having me underfoot, and is somewhat taken with his daughter. I convinced him raising kids off the grid wasn't what I was looking for. I live with my father, and camp out with the Wildman in the spring and summer.
