As Young Women In College We Met And Bonded As Lifelong Sisters
I grew up in a secluded life, we lived on a compound that included my grandparents, and houses for each of their kids. All the cousins saw each other every day, and we were close to our uncles and aunts. We went to a private school, it was mixed with both boys and girls. My graduating class was 32, and we had all been together through most of school.
My first exposure outside the compound life was when I went to college. I was sent to a Christian college, St. Something, because it was a 'safe' place for young women. This particular college had a reputation of being a feeder school for Nuns. In our Freshman year, everyone had to live on campus, we had dorms with four girls to a room. Not all the girls were shy, some walked over to your bed and stood butt naked in front of you, forcing you to look at their girl parts. It didn't bother me that much, growing up as I did with lots of cousins, I had seen that all my life. It didn't bother me either to get dressed or undressed, or shower in front of the other girls. I had seen it all, naked girls didn't bother me at all.
Still a Freshman, this over aggressive girl, came and got into my bed at night. She got on top of me to hold me down and started to kiss me all over my face. She pushed the covers off with her feet, and then pushed herself down across me, pulling my pajamas and underwear down. She ate me. It was a 'sisterhood' thing. Girls had sex with other girls, there weren't any boys around.
Let me say, that most of the girls were not lesbians. But a few were. Whether lesbian or not, you met the girl that was your 'sister', and you had sex with her. All the way through. It wasn't looked on favorably to shop around. Sex, when it happened, was an open secret. You had sex out in the open, on the lawn. You had sex in a booth at the restaurant across from campus. You had sex in your room on your bed with your roommate next to you. It was bad manners to reject your girlfriend when she wanted affections. When you kissed her, you kissed her 'for keeps'.
I'm no saying that we marked our girlfriend, but in a way we did. Fifty years later she was going to still be your 'college girl friend, your sister', it was a forever thing.
My college girlfriend and I have been best friends for thirty years. When we see each other we kiss on the lips, and if we are together we hold hands. If we travel we share a bed. If we shower we shower together. There is nothing more sensual than a long hot shower together, and then a quiet evening reliving our college life together. We travel a lot together, we married well, and we can afford to travel. We long ago realized that we were not lesbians, we were 'sisters' of the kissing kind.
