My First Boss Is Retiring This Year
I got a call from Tyler, my first boss. He was coming into town for his last evaluation and receive a company award because he is retiring at the end of this year. He asked if I'd like to meet up for dinner and catch up. I agreed.
Tyler is the guy that took a chance 21 years ago and hired this struggling, dorky redhead straight out of college. My husband and I had just married and I was working as a server at a sports bar when I got the interview.
During the interview, Tyler warned the position had high turnover due to the travel requirements and showed me the schedule. It was already planned a year in advance. The work was not hard, just a lot of set up and breaking down. I took the job.
After a few months, Tyler and I secretly began having sex but only while away on travel. Yes, my first affair. I should add Tyler was married with three teenage kids.
The affair ended when he was promoted and transferred to Florida. He knew my husband and I were ready to start our family so he pulled strings and convinced his boss to move me into a division manager position that didn't require much travel. At that time, I was the only female division manager and by far the youngest.
My husband and Tyler became good friends when we worked together. They'd golf on weekends we were not traveling. My husband also knows Tyler pulled the strings for me to get the promotion so I could stop traveling.
I told my husband Tyler was in town one last time before he retires and I'm meeting him for dinner. I was nervous he'd want to tag along to catch up but thankfully he told me to have fun with that because he was going with friends to watch the opening football game of the season at a local bar.
I met Tyler at the hotel restaurant he was staying at. We ate, enjoyed a glass or two of wine, talked and went back to his room for one romp.
