One Day The Floods Came, And I Was Lost, Then Found
For me it was the worst week of my life. Harvey flooded my apartment, I was barely able to get out, water was up to the ceiling. With the help of the Cajun Navy i was rescued. Not even shoes, nothing. It was all lost, everything. No papers either, no phone. That young man, he busted through a window and managed to pull me out under water, the apartment had water to the ceiling.
I spent the rest of the night and the next day in a shelter, picking through clothes from donations. How was I going to put on a pair of panties from some other woman. They looked new, but were they? The food was bearable, but the crowd wasn't. By the middle of the day we were filled to capacity. A table was set up with cell phones, to text or call loved ones. The only person that I felt would come for me was my boss who lived an hour away, north of the airport. I was advised to text first, then call so the party would pick up.
He answered, no they weren't flooded. He said that he would figure out how to get down to the shelter, and pick me up when he got there, but it could be several hours. He would text that cellphone and let me know where he was until he got there.
He got to me in two and half hours, he was in his wife's SUV and she was with him. The texting worked and I was waiting outside in somebody's sweatshirt. I got in the car and started crying. His wife made him stop and got in the back seat with me. We drove to his house, another couple of hours, and she fixed a warm meal for us, and helped me pick out something I could wear from her closet. She read my mind, and gave me a new package of disposable underwear that she took with her when traveling.
The air-conditioning was working, and I took a long shower and we sat down for dinner. She held my hand and told me I was safe now. I had nothing, nothing even to wear. My furniture, clothes, other belongings, my car were all flooded. I tried to fall asleep but I couldn't. She knocked and came in and asked me if I preferred to just come and sleep with them. Sleep with my boss? She stayed with me and slept with me and I woke up in her arms. We fixed breakfast together.
Up where they lived Walmart was open, and we went and found some clothes and shoes for me. As well as cosmetics and toiletries. The news was piling on and it was a disaster, but we were on high ground. That night, after dinner and I helped clean up the kitchen, she told me that she thought it would be good for me to sleep with him, cuddle up tight. Sometimes a girl needs the security a man offers. Not to worry, she would be there with me.
He floated his hand across my chest and between my legs before pulling me into his arms. I fell asleep so soundly I didn't notice when in the morning they had gotten up and had coffee and breakfast. She woke me up gently, caressing my face and telling me that "Daddy" was waiting.
The third night he put me on my back and made sure that I was there for him. It was intense and purposeful. Not playing with me. Establishing who my "Daddy" was now. I woke up in his wife's arms the following morning.
I have lived with them since that day, going on eight years now. Through the pandemic and other family emergencies. I have my 'place' at the table, and my 'place' beside him. I'm not a young woman now, I'm past thirty. A lot of time has passed and the distribution of responsibilities are pretty well established. I worked for a while, but quit in the pandemic. I'm the mother of a four year old girl.
My stuff was not recoverable and ended up in the pile with thousands upon thousands of articles from everywhere. I have my new passport and DL, and I have a home to sleep in. I have my daughter, and I have my "Daddy". We never use Sugar Daddy, because I'm not a Sugar Baby, I suppose that I'm used to it, but I still have questions, which I find myself discussing at no end with his wife about him and how I came to be there. Why did they come to save me? Why did my "Daddy" decide to keep me? Why am I the one that is fortunate?
