As A Nurse We Have To Help The Men Heal, Anyway We Can

There is a part of me. I took some nursing courses in high school and was at the hospital doing training for nursing when the war broke out. All of a sudden we were dealing with severely injured soldiers. And I was promoted to full nurse to help with the case load. Learning fast, what worked, what didn't work, we worked 12 and 14 hour days, and slept at the hospital.

I was recruited to go to the front. In a capacity for the field hospital, logistics support. But the demand for critical care was so huge that I found myself being a nurse for the men that were brought in. You see what you should only see in books. A boy with a bullet through the chest, bleeding out inside before he can be saved. Torn limb from limb. I think a lot about the nurses in WW1.

I met a Captain, he was injured and could no longer be at the front. He had needs, male needs, and I was available, so I let him use me for those needs. What is the difference, really, of a man without limbs, or a man who needs to have a woman now and then. I can help with the man who just lost a limb, I can help a man who needs a 'nurse' for his needs.

There is no love here, none. Just work. The truth is that a man feels good. Reminds me of why I am here. This is where a woman is needed. Right here, so the Captain can do his job.
