Let me start off by saying that I am an adult, married, and well-educated. I know that the advice given here isn't a substitute for seeing a doctor, but I have reasons why I can't take that step quite yet.

Here is the situation:

Have been married 12 years with one child already.

I am ambivalent about a second child for financial reasons. My husband is eager for a second.

Had unprotected sex on 2/12 (when my period was due on 2/14). I know, I know. Careless right? But I can't use the pill/patch/any form with hormones and am allergic to latex. Plus, my husband takes a medication which makes him incredibly slow to come and we usually do it bareback for an hour before he even gets close to orgasm. Then, we finish orally.

Anyway, things were a little hotter than usual and my husband came inside me. I immediately sat up. Let the semen run out. But I wasn't really worried because my period was due in two days.

Except I haven't gotten it.

Instead I've had mild cramping without any spotting and been very tired.

I've taken two hpt and both were negative.

With my previous pregnancy, I did not have a positive test until I was six weeks pregnant because I didn't produce enough pregnancy hormone.

I have also been sick for nearly two months with a flu like illness for which I took antibiotics and other medications. My system sometimes gets thrown off by illness, but usually it makes me early, not late.

I have only ever been late when I was pregnant.

I tried to make a doctor's apt today, but the doctor who had openings won't take my crappy health insurance and I can't pay for it out of pocket without my husband finding out that I think I'm pregnant.

I don't want my husband to know until I am certain because I'm unsure how I feel. If I am pregnant, I definitely will have the baby. However, if I am not pregnant, I don't want to put myself back into the baby debate.

Has anyone been in a similar situation (period 3 days late, but negative home urine tests)

Didn't get my

Please don't take offense to this, but you are maybe close to menopause? If you're in your mid to late 40's, it's possible that maybe it's the on-set of menopause. If not, it might possibly be a pregnancy, but not being a doctor I don't know. If you really want to take a load off of your mind and find out for sure, instead of having to wait for an appointment with your doctor, maybe look up your nearest planned parenthood. They usually run on a sliding scale and you can almost always just go right in (you'll have to check their website to be sure or call them). That way you can have them do a more accurate pregnancy test and get off the emotional rollercoaster that I'm sure your on. Good luck to you and I hope everything works out in the way you want it to, pregnant or not.

go to a free clinic or a planned parenthood. they are pretty cheap for a pregnency test. (think teen budgets) and generally very cool and supportive. and if you really can't squeaze any cash under your hubbies nose- buy some clothes or something w/ his credit card + return them and use the cash. I don't know if you are pregnant or not. I know I've been late a few times after having sex that was more pregnancy risky than was intended. seems I'm always late when I'm scared I could be pregnant- but then - happily I never was. maybe it's just nerves. but you should find out if your pregnant on your own before you tell your husband if your worried he'll pressue you. you could even get an abortion w/out ever telling him if you wanted to and you'd have my blessing!! it's not an easy thing. but this should really be about what you want to do. good luck!!

can you lie to your husband about why you want to go to the doctor? tell him you have pain, your worried about the flu you've had. your having unusual discharge- anything-maybe you have an infection- you could say a million things. you could easily have legitimate reason to see a doctor even if you didn't wonder if you were pregnant. it' s not like your husband will be privy to the private conversation between you and your doctor once you get in there, i hope. but good luck and don't feel bad- sex, pregnancy, and all the spaces in between, well it's just natural and normal, and it's your perogative to do what you want about it.

and do you think your husband just might have been trying to get you preggers on purpose? I would keep an eye on him, doesn't seem beyond the realm of posabilities.

Got it yesterday --nearly a full week late! I'm not sure if it was nerves or being sick. Thanks for all the advice.
