Read directions: Open box and remove 1, and place in box.

Ignore the rude answers. Read the little paper that comes in the box. You should be able to figure it out. Sometimes they can hurt or be uncomfortable if they're not in far enough. Just take your time, relax, and read the directions. You'll get the hang of it.
I had to have a few trials at it before it was comfortable for me. I found that I was using too high of an absorbancy and a cheap brand. My suggestion would be to buy the lowest absorbancy in a "slim fit". Try a high quality brand like Tampax Pearl. The applicator is smooth and the tampon is non-irritating. Good luck!
Use socks! Still washable, reusable, and can be bought cheap at yard sales.
