My husband has low motility and we were told that it was not very likely that we'd conceive naturally. I wanted a baby so bad, but we couldn't afford to adopt or go on fertility treatments.

So I started to sleep with a friend from work. He's got three healthy little boys at home, so I knew he was a good candidate and I've known him for a long time so I knew I can trust him.

Well, now I'm pregnant. And I'm so happy about that. But for whatever reason, the minute I found out I was pregnant was when I started to feel the guilt. Until then it just didn't seem real. I'm so sorry I cheated, honey, but I want this baby so much. And you think that this is the miracle we've been praying for, so it's not like I can tell you.

And even though I've broken it off (I think?), I still have feelings for John. It is so hard to see him every day at work. He's being good about things, but he is like an open door just waiting for me to walk back through it.

It was awkward at first (it was the first time either of us had cheated), but after that the "forbidden sex" was really good. It is so tough to look at him and not think about being with him. I should have been smarter and not picked someone from work.

This all seemed really simple going in. Just some reproductive sex until I got pregnant, then everything was supposed to go back to normal. Now everything is so complicated.

Your husband will find out someday, you would never have cheated if you really loved him, I love my husband, I only have sex with him.

Why do people always say that stuff? I've had affairs with three different men and my marriage is none the worse for the wear. As one "special friend" moves out of my life, I find another one.

I've got no reason to do the tests, but my 14 year old could easily be the product of one of those relationships. My husband has no knoweldge of or any reason to suspect anything about this stuff. I am always very discreet. And before you flame me, know that I had good reason to trust that the guy that possibly fathered my child was clean. I'd have never had unprotected sex with him if I couldn't trust him. I don't need the whole STD diatribe.

Point is - I do love my husband, and that is why I'm careful to be discreet. I just need a little more excitement in my life than a purely monogamous relationship can offer. I tried it, and for 5 or so years I succeeded. But then I slipped. And it was nice. The "slipping" is probably the only reason I'm still married.

Well, this is different.
Your post is a good argument for the view that monogamy is not for everyone.
I think even those of us who feel monogamy is the best of all possible worlds should acknowledge that there are many persons for whom it will never work.
We can revile those persons if we wish, but it makes more sense to have a system for them as well, rather than to consign them all to outcast status.

Having written that, I think the first poster is not being honest with herself.
Dear, if you really wanted a baby so badly, and if you really loved your husband so badly, why didn't you talk the situation over with him.
Maybe he would have said he'd never accept it, but he might have felt otherwise too.
You didn't give him a choice.

You want to have your cake and eat it too.
That's especially obvious when you talk about how attracted you are to the father you picked for your child.
This life is about choices, hard ones frequently.
If you wanted to be a mother so badly, and your husband was unwilling to have you impregnated by someone else, then you should have left your husband and found a fertile man.

You've set up a huge boulder over your head which will teeter back and forth over you until, someday, maybe years from now, either your child or your husband asks the big question.

1092: You should feel guilty. You obviously have no respect for your husband, yourself, or your children. You're selfish and stupid, and I hope your husband leaves you for a good woman who actually has feelings. What if he did that to you? How would you feel?

1097: You're just a whore, and I'm sure your husband deserves better than your crudded-up loose ass.

I'm officially a slut. John has been sweet & persistant and now we are having a for real affair that has nothing to do with making a baby.

And I'm still confused.

You're not a slut.

You've been with only one man. Obviously, you have deep feelings. Trying to make a baby or not. Sex is very intimate. Frequent sex with someone new WILL lead to strong emotional attachments. It can't be helped. The only way to avoid developing feeling for another man is to remain faithful.

Sex is powerful. Once initiated, it's hard to break it off.

No, she is a slut.
Lady, if you wanted a baby... why didn't you just get in-vitro?
You don't need to have sex to get yourself pregnant in this day and age.
