I have been married for two years and I think I want a divorce. My husband is like a child. He has a master's degree in chemical enginnering back in India, but he can not keep a job here because he cannot make a single smart decision by himself. He asks my opinion for the simpliest thing like whether he should fill up the car at the station near us or wait until he sees cheaper gas somewhere else. He calls me at work 4 or 5 times a day to ask for driving directions or where things are kept. We are on our 4th bank because he keeps bouncing checks! I married him because I was pregnant, but after the wedding I had a miscarriage. Now, we don;t even have sex anylonger because I'm afraid of bringing more idiots like him into the world. But if we get a divorce he can't stay in the U.S. and he can't go back to India because his family disowned him when we got married because I'm not Hindu.

Wow, that's tough. I say go on and divorce him, there aren't any kids involved. Unless you want to spend the rest of your life taking care of him. So he has to go back to India, at least thats where he is from, maybe he can find his way around.

Have you tried marriage counseling?
Also, he's probably highly intelligent. A lot of those types have no common sense. Maybe he has an inferiority complex, which is why he checks with you. Again, counseling may help. Good Luck.

I sympathize. My husband's ADD is destroying our marriage. He is behind nearly every problem we have from money troubles (he's wrecked our credit because he forgets about credit card bills) to mechanical problems with the car (forgot to put oil in so the engine got hung up) to the neighbors who hate us (promised to feed their cat while they were gone for a month and naturally it died because he FORGOT.)

I can't divorce him because my brother who is a lawyer said that he'd probably get alimony since he can't take care of himself properly.

Luckily he's good in bed.

Two tips, ladies: Don't marry young and don't marry a "forgetful" man until you find out more about his background.

I say DON'T DIVORCE HIM. Try to work it out, talk, like the other one, try counceling.

Didn't he become a citizen? I hear many girls from other countries always looking for US guys to marry so they can live here. Then after about 2 yrs they become citizens, get divorced, and remain here. Maybe 9/11 changed things I don't know but it really wouldn't matter to me if I was you as you need to think about YOU and so what if his family back there disowned him; that's not any kind of reason why he can't go back to his native country.

As for all those who said counceling....BS. I've seen many try it, some for many yrs and many tens of thousands of dollers later they all got divorced anyway. Most shrinks, psychologists, and the like are all quacks so to speak; their typically societies people with the most problems.
