Old And Alone
There are two types of women. Those who understand their place as assigned to them and those who are destined to a life of loneliness, not accepting their place. In my grandmother's day lonely spinsters were rare, in my generation they are everywhere. So many times I speak to these lonely women, some divorced, others never married. But mostly exhibit attitudes rebellious to their given place in society. Something widowed women alone don't exhibit.
My job takes me around the world. I have memories of happy homes, husband's, children. Then I started to notice more and more never married and divorced women exhibiting an attitude negating their given place in society and living lonely lives. Again widowed women living alone do not exhibit the same attitudes and are not 'lonely'.
I agree that my observations are observations, not some academic controlled study. However, I am a good observer of human behavior with years of professional observations. One last thing, in the interest of full disclosure, I am an unmarried, never married marketing professional. I chose, poorly, to advance my career over electing to get married. My mother told me then, you are choosing to walk alone, to not fulfill yourself under the sun. She was right, I long for a home, the company of a man, the g*ft of children and grand children. Once upon a time I thought I was above that, I was wrong. Sex is not love. Friends do not make a spouse. A house is not a home. A neighbor's child, a niece or nephew are not your children. And now I am alone.
