Zoloft and lots of it. Seriously, depression is nothing to be joked about. I saw a psychiatrist for a while about my depression, but he quickly realized that my problem was chemical and not emotional. I was never abused or molested, my brain's chemistry was just off. The pills help alot. But the more I think about it, the more I believe that I was misdiagnosed. My symptoms that I sought treatment for were mostly lack of concentration, poor memory, and loss of things I enjoy doing. No real sadness. Seems more like Adult ADD. Perhaps I'll talk to my Primary Care doctor when I go again.
Prescription meds and alcohol - lots of both. Every night I get wasted and pass out - works great!
I develop sexual obsessions, which obviously isn't dealing with it as such, but it's more fun then playing with knives.
I've thought about going to see a psychiatrist, but there so expensive for my minimum wage earnings. & I don't want my parents to know..I'm still young, and I know there's something wrong with me..I have thoughts of suicide, insomnia, mood swings, & I don't know what makes me happy anymore. I'm afraid prescription pills like Zoloft will just worsen my symptoms =[ I just don't feel like I have anything to look forward to anymore...Pathetic & worthless is more like it...

While it may not always seem so, your parents are the best people you can talk to. You'll come to realize that they love you unconditionally, and just want you to be safe and happy. It is a good thing that you realize that there is a problem, and that you want to get help. But it can be difficult asking for help sometimes. Sometimes our parents can seem unapproachable, especially for something that seems embarrassing. You've got nothing to be ashamed of. If you can't bring yourself to talk to your parents about this, which is the best course of action, talk to a guidance counselor at your school, a teacher that you trust, or the parent of one of your friends. They will be more than happy to help you approach your parents.
A lot of young people feel like there is nothing more to look forward to, but there is a whole world of opportunity out there, just waiting for you. People to meet, places to visit, etc.
While there have been studies that show that prescription anti-depressants occasionally increase the risk of suicide in young people, the majority of young people taking anti-depressants succeed in controlling their depression. If your problem is simply chemical, then there is a good chance anti-depressants will work for you. If it is also psychological, then therapy sessions will be a great help. Therapy sessions are completely confidential, and everything stays between you and the therapist, unless there is or has been a danger to you or someone else (abuse, molestation, etc.). The therapist, may at his or her discretion provide your parents with an idea of your mental state, but no specific details will be shared with them.
Tell your parents. They will understand and want you to get the help that you need. And keep posting here with your progress.
Thank You for your advice, I really do appreciate it. I am in the process of finding some time to make an appointment with my doctor, and I will go from there. I still rather not tell my parents, mainly because I have talked to them about taking me to a doctor about this almost 2 years ago and they just didn't really help me much unfortunately, but now I can do more things for myself. I'd like my happy life back...Thank you so much, I will definably keep you posted Dr. Anonymous =]
I deal with depression too. Mine is both emotional and chemical. Depression is serious and needs treatment. PLease take care and do not hide away from people who care about you. also there are some really good web sites for depression that have support groups.......google them and join one or all of them but keep reaching out......take care
Cymbalta (Celexxa did nothing for me), long term leave from work and group therapy. It's tough, I actually think of suicide as a viable option in the future if I can't get my shit together, except for the fact that I couldn't do that to my wife and kid.
