This happened just after the second space shuttle blew up. I was in Wal-Mart, in the magazine isle, and one of the astronauts was looking at the magazines. I was curious about what was going on (since it did blow up over our town, and we saw pieces everywhere)... so I asked her if they had found very many parts. She calmly replied... "I am in astronaut recovery". So I apologized, and left the store very quickly.

She said she was in astronaut recovery, is there a cure for it yet?

When the Columbia space shuttle burned up, parts of it and the astronauts were scatter over Texas and surrounding states.
The government sent people to recover as many of the pieces - both of the space craft and the astronauts - as they could.
Ordinary folks were taking many parts as souveniers.
Some parts were, allegedly, dangerous.
One astronaut's whole torso was found intact, surprisingly.
