i couldnt agree more. it drives me crazy to walk into walmart or anywhere else for that matter and hear them speak spanish. they refuse t speak english. i think they should be required to speak english or be shipped back to mexico.

I see absolulty nothing wrong with it considering that much of the country is Hispanic in some way, whether they're illegal or not. As far as forcing them to speak english, well what language would you speak if you went to another country to stay a while? You'd want to speak in your native tounge, wouldn't you? Leave the hispanics alone, they're trying to work just like you are...and no, they're not taking your jobs...do you want to work on scaffolding, highway construction, lawn work, roofing, building construction, janitorial services, or a trash man? Nah...they're taking those jobs because they're open. You know why they're open? Did you know that we "blue blood' taxpayers pay for thier foodstamps and rent when the immigrants are working illegaly and don't pay taxes...and you're OKAY with this???

Your forefathers would be ashamed. I bet they came to this country in the late 1800's or early 1900's.
I will also bet your Irish immigrant ancestors came to this country legally. I will also be willing to wager that they worked their asses off without much complaint. I'm sure they paid taxes also and lived wherever they could to support their family without crybabying to the government for support. The early immigrants were hard working and proud. Most would never consider a handout unless absolutely desperate. The Irish immigrants never had a march to protest their unfair treatment when "bluebloods" refused to hire them. They just kept on plugging away.

The Italian immigrants and the Germans, and all the other european immigrants learned the language and the culture of the country they immigrated to.

All of the Italian,German,Polish and Russian immigrants I know, sing the Star Spangled banner in English..the language it was penned in and the language of the country they want to be part of.

Poor Hispanic my ASS. Let them do what every other nationality of immigrants have done without imposing demands and begging for special treatment.

Why the hell should they be treated any differently than an Italian , german or Irish immigrant??????????????????

I live in a nice community, but thanks to the new laws with 40B housing and section 8 we get to have the scum of the earth down the street from my half million dollar house!

well, you have a half million dollar house so obviously are well off, perhaps a CEO or high ranking official in your company, offer them a job. Show them what they can acheive with hard work. They may not know anything but drugs and selling them. and whoever said i was "god suffering"...no, i'm a Druid, i bow to no Christian God so dont you dare attempt to make any assumptions about religion. Personally, i think that this country should uphold the idea of a melting pot it was founded on and instead of forsing all others to assimilate, why dont we adopt some other customs instead of making a mockary of them with things such as Taco Bell. And i know for a fact not all immigrants are drug dealers and "scum of the earth". I know some that are very hard working men and women for a lawn mowing company a friend of mine works for. I also would like to make the point that we put so much emphasis on the southern border, but what about the north? Canada is the main source of illigal drugs coming into america. Mexico looks like its the highest, but thats simply because we catch them all the time.

this issue is a matter od principle. if we were to go to mexico to live they woould expect us to learn spanish and adapt our lifestyles to their culture. i know this for a fact since a good friend of mine is married to a mexican. she now resides in mexico and cant get a job because she doesnt speak spanish. also most of the mexicans are taking jobs so they can send everything they earn right to mexico. lastly they get the jobs we dont want because they have little to no education. most cant add or read on a fifth grade level. i believe that if you cant learna and speak the language of a country you should not be allowed to work in it or gain citzenship.it drives me nuts to be in the mall or walmart and hear them speaking spanish. you know and i know they are taking about someone they just saw. and why should the hard working taxpayers have to pay them welfare they breed like wildfire. the women get pregnant on purpose so that the states are required to give them assistance

Thats not always true, more of a generalization about mexican women. and those that cannot read or do addition may not have had the chance to learn. Mexican school systems aren't exactly the best things in the world you know. and so what if they're sending money back over to mexico. The way i see it, thats only building their economy which is something that America seems all gun-ho about anyways (i.e. Iraq). Now, consider this....we send all the illigal immigrants back to where they came from...how many American families would that split up? How many mexican-american children would be without a mother or father? If i child is born to an immigrant and a citizen then they are legal too. So what happens there? Shouldn't the Illigals have a chance to become citizens while they're here in the states? Thats how my great grandparents did it when they came from Ireland.

Even in Druid religion, there is a god...........and TRUST me, I am NOT a christian! I am a Pantheist.

I live in a part of the country that a half million dollar house is an average to slightly above the median. Also, my husband works for himself and damn hard too.

A melting pot, pehaps, but the difference is other cultures and nationalities have moved here from elsewhere and adopted the American culture and the English language.

Furthermore the reason why Hispanics are taking the low paying jobs is because they are uneducated obviously.
NOT just because Americans are lazy.That in itself would be a racist remark would it not?

My dentist is from Egypt. He came to this country in the 70's...guess what, he came legally and is educated and can speak English............THAT is the difference between your "laboring" Hispanics and other immigrants.

As for Hispanics and drugs......Like any nationality not all of one culture are dope peddlers, but the low class,uneducated ,illegal immigrants that live in my town are, thanks to 40B and section 8 laws.

I have also heard about the drug problem in Canada. People don't look at it as much because firstly, they are European,but secondly the Canadians are not putting a burden on the taxpayers the way illegal Hispanic immigrants are.

My arguement is that when immigrants from other countries came they learned the language and customs of the culture they were trying to intigrate into without crybabying for special treatment and handouts.

Other immigrants, like on Ellis Island had to work hard at becoming legal citizens and were grateful to come here.
Many Irish, German and Italian (to name a few) worked damn hard and made something of themselves as buisness men and women, shopowners..ect.

They EDUCATED themselves and became successful to get rights and privileges....They didn't go marching down the street waving signs and pissing and moaning for it!!!!!!!!!

THAT is the difference that CANNOT be denied!
If you can point out when another culture of immigrants that came to America and demanded the same things as the Hispanics are doing now, I will stand corrected and admit that I was wrong about other immigrants.

If the children are born here then yes, the parents should be able to become citizens,but why didn't they become legal citizens in the first place??

What is the criteria for entering this country?
You have to work at it and apply, take American history classes and learn the language among other things.

Illegal Hispanics don't want to do that...it's too much work!!

I have respect for the immigrants that have gone through proper channels. That shows that if you want something bad enough it's worth working for.

Why should illegals get a free ride and be different from the ones that had to work for it? Why do they thing they are automatically entitled??

If I werwe a Hispanic that did things the right way, and legally , I would be pretty annoyed with the others who want a free ride.

Well, technically the African-Americans bitched and whined for a while trying to get equal rights and handouts for quite some time in the 70s i beleive. and technically, they were brought here as slaves and only gained citizenship by a constitutional amendment, much like some of the ideas proposed here in this day and age. As for them getting an education, well that costs money, something they obviously dont have if they're trying to come here to work. And perhaps they're sending money back to their families in mexico to give them the means to learn to speak english and become a citizen, and then when they come over the original person that traveled over can become a citizen. Not to mention all the red tape that one must go through to get anywhere in this country. It was hard enough for my wife to get her named changed after we got married. Imagine what it would be like for someone who doesn't understand english as well as we do and has no idea about our government system and what is required of them.

You can't pull the black card.
As you know African Americans did not come here originally by free will. They were more than willing to be left in their own country. Blacks have absolutely been citizens of this country for hundreds of years before they protested for thier rights...the right to vote, the right to the same education as european children. They more then well EARNED the right for those things with their marches and protests. I would not call black people immigrants by ANY stretch!! They were here from the beginning and did not hop any fences or dodge border patrol to get here.

A few of my greatgrandfathers fought alongside Negros in both the revolutionary war and the civil war.They were indeed a HUGE part of the backbone that has kept America going since the 1600's.

As for cutting through the red tape..comon, there are plenty of translators at the immigration office. That's the point, you have to go through the red tape like every other immigrant has.There are certainly people who will help immigrants through the process if they are willing, but you have to earn it..not EXPECT it for NOTHING!

My forefathers had to fight in the 1600's and 1700's to earn the right to call this land home.
We had to pay plenty of debt to England to earn that right.
We "bluebloods" did NOT get a free ride!

I am not opposed to welfare for those who truly need it.
However, I beleive if you are receiving welfare and food stamps, you should also work them off in some form by getting an education and not being a burden to the rest of society.

Everyone is an immigrant to some degree from Adam of Africa and Helena.
From Africa we migrated to Europe and Asia.
From Asia we get Native American descent.
From Europia we get European, but we are not talking migration. We are talking immigration which came thousands of years later when borders were established.

When we speak of immigration to America by the Hispanics we are of course talking about immigration since the Europeans conquered North America, not migration.

Don't forget Mexicans and Spanish are two completely different haplotypes.
Mexicans are derived from haplotype X (Asia) and Spanish are European. When Mexico was conquered by the Spanish, the two races have merged making a "Hispanic" race.

The black race on the other hand is the oldest race known to mankind as haplotype L which all other races descend from.

All countries have borders. The older the human race has gotten, the more diverse people have become and created their own societies.

People from different parts of the world have different haplotypes.
Much like there are different species of bird.
And you know the old saying...Birds of a feather, for a reason.

People of the same types of cultures prefer eachother over a neighboring culture because it is familiar and comfortable. They know of social customs between eachother.

This is why trying to force another country and culture to accept another causes discord. America is a young, but anestablished society with an accepted language,customs and rules. When others or outsiders invade or cause discord, there will be disharmony and resentment.

My grandparents came here from Italy. Became citizens, worked hard, raised FOURTEEN kids, never took a dime from the system, never asked for a handout and gave more than they had to those who needed it more than they did. As hard as the language was for them, they spoke broken english. They thought it was rude to speak italian in front of visitors that didn't speak itailian. Five of their seven sons served in the military. They were proud to be American, back then, they didn't call everyone Italian-American or Irish-American, they were all Americans once they came here LEGALLY.

I have an idea. Bring our troops home, put them on all of our borders, protect our rights as citizens not to have them taking advantage of us. Star Spangled Banner in Spanish? No way

Anybody who does not see the harm in allowing illegal immigrants from Mexico to become citizens "just because" either does not see the ramifications or refuses to.

The day the "Illegals" protested by not going to work, guess what....I noticed NOTHING!

I think my local garden shop had to use thier white staff to do the labor. Shame on them anyway for hiring illegals in the first place. Buisness owners are to blame as much as the immigrants to some degree.

The illegals make there way here, somehow find a way to get food stamps and welfare...some cheap jackass hires them to do manual labor under the table and here we are.

On a related matter, the same days Hispanics walked off work and out of school for their May 1 "Day without immigrants," in this country, over in Mexico, they held a "Day without Gringos" demonstration. In this purely racist display of solidarity with illegals in the USA, the Mexicans boycotted American products and businesses (who very often are at the forefront for rights for illegals), and considered this to be a victory for the "bronze and brown races." It wasn't so much the march or even the boycott I consider racist. rather, it's the use of the word "Gringo." With the exception of the lunatic fringe, the government or most citizens of this country wouldn't dream of promoting a "day without Spics," calling it a victory for the "white race." Yet, the government of Mexico threw its' full weight of support behind the May 1 demonstrations.
Is anyone else pissed off about this?

If they had the same mindset as EVERY other immigrant that came to this country since it was a European colony and country they would be more accepted into the European culture they so DESPERATELY want to be part of.

This country is EUROPEAN...which includes immigrants from Italy,Germany,Great Britian and other EUROPEAN countries.

The Mexicans say they are indiginous to the land....I say they had THOUSANDS of years to migrate here before it became a European colony..and they DID NOT.

Mexicans only made their way up here when WELFARE and FOODSTAMPS became available. In Mass. we have one of the most liberal handouts as far as low income housing, welfare and foostamps.
It is no mystery to me WHY they are all making a Bee line for Massachusetts. I can't speak for any other state in the union, but up here the people who resent them the most are the Italian,German and Irish immigrant families because they had to BUST their ASSES to make it here and learn all they could.
NO, my family is not Irish, Italian or German either.We were on the Mayflower. The reason why I refer to those particular groups is because I RESPECT them and they RESPECT this country and it's rules, cultures, language and laws.

10 to 15,000 years ago Asian people migrated to what is now north and south America. What is Mexico was conquered by the Spanish (European) and North America was conquered by the English (European) into the present day borders that have been intact as the lower 48 states since the mid-eighteen hundreds. Texas was purchased after the Mexican/American war.
Neighboring native people tribes also conquered eachother for land/best trading spots on the coast.
Conquering and taking over has been in constant motion since the dawn of man. It is simply survival of the fittest from Neanderthals to Alexander to Charlemagne..thwe list goes on.

This is a European country. The majority of the population is British (England,Ireland,Scotland)followed by German,Irish and Italian. All of which are European with European customs and language.
386 years ago the indiginous people had the law of the land, but things change.
Mexicans had thousands of years to migrate and did not.
Yes, Texas was their land, but not anymore.

I agree. I like reading some of the stories.Some are funny,but "I crapped my pants" gets a little boring.
I never thought too much about the different groups of immigrants until I read this post. I have to say that I don't recall any other group of immigrants protesting and carrying on the way the Hispanics are.

My great-great grandparents were from Ireland. They immigrated to the US in 1865. They came here after the great potato famine. They were escaping DEATH.

They had to struggle and work in the shoe factory while raising 10 children. They were lucky to be hired in that day and age. They lived modestly while working to survive.

They did not come to receive welfare or foodstamps. They came on a ship through customs and legally to Boston.

Their children and grandchildren fought in WW1, WW2 and Korea. They have become an integral part of history and society.

By the mid 20th century,Irish workers were no longer being frowned apon. They were proud people and hard workers.
When the going got tough,the Irish kept going. They may have grumbled,but never did anything close to what the Hispanics are doing/trying to do.

If Hispanics come her by legal means and are decent, hard working and honest that are willing to integrate into the American culture, they are welcome by me.
The ones that refuse to learn english,sneak here and grub for free services this country can do without!

My family came in the Civil War and fought for the Confederacy. After the war they escaped the ruins of the South that the Yankees had created (they tourched the property and everyone unlucky enough not to get out) and went back to Ireland and opened a jewelry shop...became very rich, then my great grandparents came back to Tennessee and set up shop playing off american materialism. My great grandfather became rich, let my mother as a child play with diamonds for fun...then died and left all the cash to the wrong relative....he spent it all on booze and women. All thats left anymore is a few antique diamonds that my grandma has.

I've lived in California for 24 years. I've always taken the most liberal line on immigration, without much question. I supported amnesty for undocumented workers and I marched against California's propositions that made it harder for immigrants to receive social services. But my preset acceptance has been a blindness. Liberals like me have ignored the way the steady trickle of new Americans has become a massive repopulation program, primarily from Mexico. During the 1970s, 120,000 Mexicans came to the U.S. every year. During the 1980s, it was about 200,000 a year. During the 1990s, it was 350,000 a year. Today, it's estimated at 485,000-every year. One out of every eight Mexican-born adults are now living in the U.S.

I no longer think it's okay to give the Mexican government a free pass. Pushing its poor towards the U.S. seems to have become Mexico's primary social policy. The migration rate is the highest from the areas with the poorest people. But the Mexican government has not pushed money into those areas to ease the conditions that force Mexicans to leave. It's doing the opposite; the World Bank says those states are receiving the least government help.

This has been a threefold victory for the Mexican government. First, it eliminates the financial concern of how to care for these people. Second, the citizens who would be the angriest about the government's inadequacies keep leaving the country. Those who would vote, protest, stage walk-outs, and revolt-instead keep voting with their feet. Which in turn protects The Powers That Be. And third, as a reward for watching entire communities empty out, they receive a huge influx of cash.

Last year, Mexicans received $20 billion in remittances from their relatives in the U.S. That's more than Mexico receives in foreign aid. That's more than international tourists spend in Mexico every year. The only industry it earns more from is oil. The fact of the matter is that the Mexican government simply cannot afford to stem the tide of migration. Since 2000, about $100 billion has been wired into Mexico.

I would be fine with that, if the Mexican government were using this as capital to end corruption and kickstart its economy. One Mexican academic has determined that of the 16 Mexican states with the highest migration rates, not one has made economic development a priority. Rather than more Mexicans going to work, more are quitting their jobs because they can live off the remittances. In five Mexican states, remittances now equal more than 100% of local salaries. In one state, Michoacan, it's 182%. Mexican academics are calling their country's relationship to the U.S. "parasitic"- they insist it is not making Mexico stronger, just making Mexico more dependent.

Can you imagine the uproar in the U.S. if our national social policy for poor people was to encourage them to leave the country and go to Canada?

The Mexican government denies it is encouraging people to leave. But Mexico has still not made human trafficking illegal. They distributed 1.5 million comic books with instructions on how to cross the border safely. Yucatan distributed a similar book, complete with bonus DVD. Last December, Mexico began a publicity campaign reminding Mexicans that they were entitled to a $5.15 minimum wage in the U.S. - but it has not adequately enforced its own minimum wage of 60 cents.

Rather than making it harder to run off to America, they've made it easier. Mexicans residing in the U.S. can now keep their money in Mexican banks denominated in dollars, not pesos. They can get special-rate mortgages for purchasing property in Mexico.

When President Vicente Fox calls the emigrants "heroes," he is taking advantage of their hard labor. He shouldn't celebrate this migration. It should be considered a tragedy that the Mexican government has not done more to end corruption, enable their economy, and care for its citizens.

It's fine to welcome immigrants and support their rights. But why do we attack our own government so loudly, and yet remain so silent on how their government is failing them? For a good liberal, there's nothing more damning than looking culturally insensitive. And Vicente Fox knows this; he knows that half of America will never dare criticize anyone who speaks another language. So he pushes his poor our way, knowing we good liberals will only rise and applaud.

I did not the the magnitude of this problem until I read through all of these messages. I live in New England and we do not have a lot of Mexicans, legal or otherwise. We are a melting pot, but there has to be a limit as to just how much and what kind of a strain it puts on the taxpayers. As a small business owner, I pay a fortune for heath insurance for my family. Along with a sizable mortgage and other expenses, I would love to have "free care" like tso many of these people receive. Food vouchers, housing, etc. It sucks being white and middle class...no joke.

Here in New England also. I live on the East coast of Massachusetts. Have you been to Six Flags New England recently? I went last month and I felt like I was in Mexico, No shit! Hardly anyone spoke English and it was 10 times worse in Busch Gardens in Florida (granted that state is historically a Mexican area).

Today there was a traffic backup on a state road in my town. Tree cutters for the power lines. All 3 tree cutters were friggin Mexican babbling morons.

What the hell happened to the white state workers? I wonder if they were even legal the way they were babbling their jibberish to eachother. At least the detail officer spoke english he wasn't Mexican!

Ha Ha funny you should say that. I was driving down the road and saw 2 people and a baby carriage walking down the street. As I got closer I saw a BIG,FAT,UGLY blonde woman pushing the baby carriage and a short little Mexican guy next to her.
All I could think was that was as good a meal ticket as this guy is going to get around here! I will bet that's how he is getting a visa or green card!
