The History Channel and I think Discover have run programs demonstrating that the history portrayed in the Davinci Code is baseless and fraudelent; and that isn't taking into account the religion issue. Most significantly, I think, is the Priory of Zion, which Dan Brown claims was a line of individuals (including Leonardo DaVinci) secretly keeping this secret of a married, mortal Christ alive throughout the ages. In fact, the Priory of Zion didn't exist before 1959, when it was invented by right wing French intelectuals, trying to promote their leaders' connection to the Merovingian dynasty of Late antiquity and the early dark ages.
Don't make me get into Browns' fabricated conection between Christs' alleged blood line, and the Merovingians - I could babble for hours I think!

Exactly. "Dan Brown claims...", "DaVinci code suggests...", "danger to the faith..." It is a freaking work of fiction. Based, yes, on the ramblings of some people looking for connections in disparate events in history, but fiction nonetheless. It is like people trying to figure out what cities Gotham City and Metropolis are - they're made up, get over it.
