It is a fact that today's practicing Christians stole Paganism (earth worship).
Man has believed in a "GOD(s)" for hundreds of centuries. religion is constantly evolving. There IS NO right or wrong belief.
People(for very good reason) worshiped the land they lived on and had a representation in a diving form to give thanks back to the land that helped them survive another season. Christianity stole many if not ALL customs from the Pagans and demonized them unfairly even to go to the point where if you did practice the Pagan religion, you were put to death.
Here are some holidays we celebrate that come from the Pagan religion.

Easter...Do you put out baskets for your kids? This was a pagan celebration of Eostre..the goddess of fertility, thus the egg.
Christmas..Jesus was more likely born in late summer or fall. The Christmas tree is a Pagan ritual and also a celebration of "Yule" the winter solstice.

There are many more.

Christians have their patron saints much the same as Pagans/druids have their particular gods and goddesses. Some people beleive in their hearts that the divine deity is a goddess..or a creature..or the wind!!!

NO ONE is wrong!! No one living on this planet knows anything more than your pet dog about whether or not there is a God, Godess,Great spirit, Buddha..whatever!!

It is ALL blind faith.

Remember, MEN wrote the Bible and "teach" the "word of God"(brainwash in my opinion). Between the Spanish Inquisition through burning at the stake for witchcraft up to modern times, what other religion on this earth in history has killed more people "in the name of GOD".. Thou shalt not kill??? Are you kidding me??
Christians have slain more innocent people in history than all other religions combined!

So..the next time you stand on your soapbox preaching the word of "GOD" to anybody that will listen, remember that in the history of man. CHRISTIANITY is a relitively new religion. It certainly isn't the first and wont be the last.

But isn't it nice that we can all have an opinion and agree to disagree without fear of being murdered for our beliefs (or lack there of). What a country this America!

Youv'e got to be kidding??!!
What about Gays and the clan? (yes, it does still exist)
Gays have gotten murdered just for being gay..and blacks have ben murdered just for being black.

No we haven't gotten murdered for our religious beliefs since the 1600's in this country. We have progressed nicely in that area.

Look at the yes or no topic. Some people reply as though they actually KNOW there is a GOD and the rest of us are "uninitiated" into the "beleivers society" and can't go to their speculated Heaven when we die.

The fact is ..there is NO FACT..It's all either your opinion/the way you were raised/something that struck a cord with you.

After reading Spinoza and Einstein, I fall into the Pantheism category. No amount of babbling about the "Kingdom of Heaven" will change my mind.

If Christians are not allowed to kill according to the 10 commandments supposedly told to Moses through God himself, why are there Christians in the military that kill every day?

Oh, here is a convenient excuse..Christians in the military are fighting Evil. You bad..we good.

That is not to say that I don't think we should be over there...we definately should. But, I do not contradict myself by saying so...as christians do...on a regular basis.

"I cannot conceive of a God who rewards and punishes his creatures, or has a will of the kind that we experience in ourselves. Neither can I nor would I want to conceive of an individual that survives his physical death; let feeble souls, from fear or absurd egoism, cherish such thoughts. I am satisfied with the mystery of the eternity of life and with the awareness and a glimpse of the marvelous structure of the existing world, together with the devoted striving to comprehend a portion, be it ever so tiny, of the Reason that manifests itself in nature."
[Albert Einstein,_The World as I See It_]

Original poster, i just want you to know that i absolutly love you. I have been raised as a Druid since the day of my birth, as has my mother and nearly every person on her side of the family and as of late, i have constantly found myself at the sharp end of much critisism from Christians. I'm very grateful that you said what you did, it was long overdue.

Christianity is not a new religion, its beliefs stem from the beginning. Pagan religious adaptations were brought to America from Europe from which Santa Claus or Saint Nicholaus resided. All of these things were brainwashed into Americans as the way things are because of benefits for retailers and to establish something similar to from where they imigrated. Christianity did not steal pagan religious things such as earth worship because many christian ideals do not worship the earth. Christianity worships God who is the stem from where we come. There is no definite evidence even proven by scientists as to how man got to be. No clear or close evidence that proves that man arose from monkeys or slime. There are gaps that scientists have yet to figure out or ever come close. But it has been proven that man and all races were derived from two people and a single blood line. You can consider yourself slime or a cousin of the monkey if you like, but as for me I think not. America is a melting pot, do you actually think that many other religions would not be affected by the customs of others. When different cultures with different customs are introduced to a religion, they adapt traditional customs to their religion. One example is catholicism into the spanish culture. The spanish culture hold their religion close but they also have adapted to customs such as celebrating the dead with the day of the dead in which they welcome the dead to their homes and clean off gravesites, and this was intended to celebrate children and the dead. You say that there is no God, I would expect that from someone who doesn't believe anything but in what they can see and I would probably expect that is the extent of your belief. Do you beleive that you are just a fleshy being that is here to interact and die and that is the extent of your life? Or do you believe that there has to be something more than what you can see, that you can believe something else and it can work. So here is the challenge, decide for a day that you would give it a sincere chance, talk to God in your own way, find a bible and read one scripture, no more than one. If you are sincere in what you believe, should it change you? Its a challenge, mark it off your to do list of your life. Life is unpredictable, if you were to die any moment would you rather try to believe? Its more than that, its an humanly unexplainable peace.

History and certainly casual observation shows that many, if not most people are just happier "believing" in their favorite fairy tale than in having any particular understanding of the world around them.

Christianity IS a new religion, even though it's beliefs go back to the begining. Why is it that the ancient egyptians were not christians or jews or anything else that believes in one god? Are they all going to "hell"?? I've heard christians say that before Jesus, there were signs that should have made people believe in god. For lack of a better adjective, I'm just going to say, that is stupid. Just because something is not explainable doesn't mean it has anything to do with a god. And this purpose that christians speak of..... I just don't get it. 'We live here and slaughter non-christians until we die. Then after death, we live happily ever after in our mansions in heaven'? Doesn't sound like much of a purpose to me.

Seriously, if you think about it...why would a supreme being create the entire universe, and put people on earth for the sole purpose of worshipping him? Was he bored or something? And where did this god come from? They say that he has always been..... and I say that is where the bullshit starts. Everything/everyone has a beginning and an end.

I could go days and days arguing about why christians are wrong. I understand that it's hard to change your mind when you're raised a certain way. I was even raised a christian. I got sick of the closed minded views of christians, and the stupid answers they have for everything.

I agree with 2872. whoever said Christianity was here from the beginning, you are dead wrong! Christiany was not spread around until Charlemagne not even a couple of thousand years ago.
Does that mean earlier civilizations were "uneducated or primitive"?

Absolutely not! Religion and beleifs are always evolving.
And you are DEAD WRONG about Christians not stealing from Paganism. You may be educated in your own narrow religion, but not in the history of the religions of man throughout time.

Christianity first started about 1900 years ago, a relatively short time in the history of man. It wasn't until the 1200's that Christianity took a stronghold, largely due to the "join us or die" threat Christians imposed upon everyone else.
Around the time of the Charles the great, or better known as Charlemagne was crowned emperor of the Christian holy Roman empire, many europeans were still largely practising Paganism and Druidism. Charlemagne waged war on the saxons and sent missionaries to kill all who were not converted to Christianity. This practice took place later with the Spanish inquisition.

The Christian faith was based on fear and threat of death, therefore many Pagans/Druids were forced to worship "underground".

In order to assimilate with the padans/Druids,to draw in more followers, Christianity took most/All of their practices and holidays.
In the missionary days, they would just kill them.

It is my opinion that Christianity is based upon fear.
Fear that you will go to "hell" if you break the 10 great rules, fear of "god's wrath" fear of "Satan".

To this day most Christians beleive everyone else(especially jews) are going to burn forever in Hell.

A big crock of shit for those who cannot think for themselves outside of the christian walls that teaches hell and damnation to all those not annointed into the kingdom of God through Jesus Christ.

The Druids were obliterated by the Romans in pre Christian times. What little is known of the late La Tene culture "Druidism" comes down to us solely through Roman authors, who held them in considerable disdain.

When the Roman Empire became officially a "Christian" regime, they pushed their take on Christianity throughout the empire, although areas of localised pantheism remained in isolated areas.

"Charlemagne" (742? -814) battled Saxon, Avar, Mohammedan and Danish "Pagans" to establish Christianity through most of Europe during his reign.

Modern "Druidism" is as watered down and made-up-as-you-go-along as is America's take on Christianity.

So, any of this tripe simply becomes a matter of: "My imaginary friend can beat up your imaginary friend".

As long as I am on this proto-dark ages history rant - has anyone ever sat through the film "Vercingatorix" aka "The Druids"? I am an extreme history buff, and only made it through the first hour.....

Good god, if nothing else would kill anyone's taste for history or Druidism, this dog just might. It's like two hours of Ed Wood Directs William Castle's Production Of - "Vercingatorix".

Completely incomprehensible.

Pantheism is very different from paganism. While Pantheism worships the earth as Pagans do, Pantheists do not beleive in a "GOD", but rather, just the energy and universe in itself. Spinoza

I'm also a history buff, and so I forced myself to sit through this stinker. One of the saddest aspects of this movie is its' treatment of the Germans, or Teutons, who go about non-verbally in their furry, animal skin britches, without giving an intelligible motivation for their role in Gaul during the Roman invasion.
Sorry to get off the subject, but I really felt a need to add my two cents about this trully bad film.

One thing, Christians do not hate Jews, well real christians don't. Throughout the Bible there are thousands of mentions of Jews and the tribe of Isreal being God's chosen people especially because Jesus descended from Isreal and was JEWISH. Jesus is an important part of the Christian religion since he is CHRIST. The name of the Christian religion may not be very very old but the religion and basis itself is. You may or may not know your pagan religions very well but you know nothing about mine. History is what you know ,that is his story, all one sided views that don't apply to anything but what you can touch, feel or smell. You don't know my story. Continue to watch your predate documentaries and how to create your own God in minutes and see if Osiris will fall out of the sky for you. But they are the fairy tales. Within the Bible, your pagan gods were owned. Until Jesus Christ was born there may have been other pagan gods simply because most people may not have known about God and those committed sacrifices for rain or other needs. Jewish customs were to committ a sacrifice unto God as an expression of love for God and as the best sacrifice they could offer. When Jesus was crucified he served as a sacrifice from God that would cover all sacrifices and show how much God loved us. I don't doubt God loves you, I know he does. God is waiting for you to love him and wants to know how much you love him.

Also I think for myself and from my experiences and the experiences I have seen for others in the kingdom of God. The church serves as a place where I can go to hear the word of God but I also want to know it for myself to stand alone when I am not in church and still know. Deception is a prevalent thing everywhere but practical misconceptions are as well and not the most well deciphered or perceptions of the meanings of the word of God. What missionaries did hundreds of years ago is on them but what have they done to you now? Why when 9/11 came, everyone seemed to blame, not believe, or believe in God then or has the fear worn off of you yet. God is a comforter, a protector, a provider not a tyrant. He'll give chances to make your own decisions, the outcome is on you, so dont blame God for your choices. If you choose to let God be the head of your life, you won't have to worry about trying to fix everything.

When you go to church, you hear a MAN not GOD..and words that were written by man.

You are a fool. Christianity was based on Jesus Christ, it does not pre-date 60 A.D.

Pagans/Druids/Jews/Hindus do beleive in a GOD. A god that was worshipped LONG before your "savior" Jesus was born was born.

As for Knowing anything...you don't.
You know NOTHING. NO ONE KNOWS ANYTHING. You have an opinion...no better or worse than anyone elses. No more actual knowledge than a cat or dog.

You are most likely a Catholic,Prodistant or Baptist.
Of all religions, I would have to say Catholics are the most ARROGANT in acting/preaching pedantic bullshit about how they "KNOW GOD Loves me" or "Is waiting for my love"

How egotistical is that!!!???

I look at the big picture, I don't say; "well, Christians haven't slaughtered anyone in the last 5 days..I guess they are okay"

I am looking at the history of Christianity.

You need to brush up on your history of your own religion before you try to stand on your wobbly soap box.

`The people that say they have seen god work miricles, and that is all the proof they need, are the same people who beleive unexplained phenomena must be a ghost.

People that can't see beyond their own nose, or don't want to will rely on the common accepted belief.

There are no Aitheists in foxholes.

Research into most popular religions will reveal that they all preach to the effect of; "If you are not one of us then you will be damned in hell for all eternity". If they are all correct then we will all end up in the same pot anyway so who cares?

People here are talking bout being "close minded". Well I'm a christian and I know that most beliefs and "rituals" of christians are stolen from a variety of relegions. But what does that matter? It doesn't even matter who or what you worship. All that matters is that you act accordingly in your life and are a good person. I, personally, am sick of humanity. Not only do humans blow situations out of control, but they take everything personally. Someone is not of the same religion, they will feel personally attacked. I really think we, as a race, need to shape up or die off. Don't live in the past, live for the future. Try and make this world better for our children. Honestly that is my only concern in life.
