Sapphic, Bisexual And Lesbian
SoI thought that I would just throw in something else into the discussion.
Me, personally, I have always thought of myself as being “Sapphic,” and I know that a lot of other women out there do as well. Being bisexual seems to indicate having an equal and regular attraction to both sexes, and lesbian just to women. To me being Sapphic is more of a friendship with mild romantic feminine overtones. Or like an appreciation of female friendship.
When I was younger and growing up, it was just my mom and me, and she was very understanding and open minded. I felt an affinity toward other girls, and many other girls felt the same way. It was easy and special to have a friendship which shared romantic ideals and the enjoyment of being able to express this girls. To be quite sexist, in ways that boys just did not understand nor appreciate.
And yes, I did have loving and sexual moments with other girls as a means of expression. I know that many would just call this being bisexual. Others might say that it was unrecognized or latent lesbian tendencies. To me, however, the term “Sapphic” refers more to the spiritual and the ideal of romanticism between females and female understanding rather than to just sex.
But while iqw as growing p I as free to have Sapphic friendships with other girls and I could beopen about this with my mom and did not have to hide it, which was a wonderful freedom I can tell you. And I suppose that I ddi have some what might well be called more “bisexual” moments with girls , where I would have a girlfriend spend the night, and my mom knew that we would sleep naked and make love and that this was quite permissible. That was just the type of household that I grew up in, very understanding, where I could walk around the house naked or do that with a friend I front of my mom and she had no problem with that. I suppose that my mom just thought it best that I indulge in things like that at home. She taught at the university and was very intellectual.
But I went on and fell in love and got married to a man whom I thought was just wonderful. But unfortunately as time went on he became increasingly less romantic and more and more distant so we finally divorced after ten years.
Finding myself single again, I started to enjoy having some Sapphic friendships which were thoroughly romantic and enjoyable. No, not near dedicated enough to be called “lesbian,” and perhaps more borderline “bisexual.” I do not reject this term I only dispute its intended meaning as having an equal and regular attraction to both sexes. I still like men and feel an attraction to men. It is more that I just enjoy the appreciation of romanticism between two females, and apparently from what I have found and experienced so do many, many other women.
So make what you want of this, but this is my take on lesbian and bisexual and Sapphic Love.A
