Love Between Friends
Six years ago I had a bisexual affair with a friend. Shelia and I had known each other for a long time, and she had gotten divorced a couple of years before. At the time my own marriage really hadn’t been going all that well.
Shelia and I were hardly lesbians, but somehow, just for fun, we decided to fool around together. It was pleasing just being women together like that and we thoroughly enjoyed it. So after that we found ourselves staring to have more fun, and it was nice having that together. This went on for almost a year and I started to feel quite badly that I really was, in effect, cheating on my husband, who of course had no idea. So Shelia understood and we ended our affair. A short time after that she moved away to Washington State, where she got a really good job.
I made every effort to make my marriage better, but it was like me trying all by myself and my husband just being indifferent, and this went on for the next two years. I was very disappointed and naturally I started thinking just how nice it had been with Shelia. No, the two of us weren’t madly in love, it was nothing like that, but we were close as friends and we just had the most wonderful and satisfying relationship that was very pleasingly romantic in its own way actually. Sort of a girl's thing, really.
Finally I asked my husband for a divorce, which he had no problem with. Now for the last two years I have been living quite openly in Washington State on the coast with Shelia. I suppose that now we are lesbians, although we really continue to think of ourselves as bisexual friends. But whatever anyone wants to call it, it has been the most wonderful two years.
And no, I never thought of myself ever being with another woman in this way and neither did Shelia. I can only say that life is just too short to pass up any opportunities for happiness. So bisexual? Yes, definitely. Lesbian, who knows? It’s not like either of us have this aversion the men, nor do either of us having a longing to be with any other women. That’s all I can say.
