I am new to the state of Oregon (Portland) and sadly I am already sick of it. But this isn't a rant or a rave about the hipsters, the horrific drivers, the devastating income tax, or the city government that is failing the education system. This is about a man and his roommate/boyfriend/whatever who live below me.
I recently moved in to a beautiful 1 bedroom 850 sq ft apartment, it's a major step up from my last shabby, freeway hanging hell hole in terms of amenities and price. When I first saw it I fell in love, it was modern but it felt like home something I had been searching for since I moved 1000 miles away from my own.
I began to move in two weeks after applying for the apartment, however it wasn't a really smooth transition. Moving can be a pain in the ass for everyone, but it just so happened that it was also the week of midterms as well as a lot of unexpected priorities and expenses. I realized that I should probably hold off on renting a moving truck, being a out of state college student doing it on my own money is tight. So I resorted to move all of my possessions by means of my two door Mustang. Needless to say this was a extremely tedious task, I had minimal time to make few allowed trips per day, and minimal space as the mustang isn't really equipped for such a task, it took me nearly a week to move everything. Well not only did my asshole neighbor complain loudly about me "stomping around" after my second day of moving did he have the audacity to assume one night that I was not moving that entire time and am just a inconsiderate being. However he failed to eloquently present this ill notion in that manner that I just stated. I had been sick and tired of that bastard blasting his fucking music at all hours of the day to the degree in which I could sing along in my own apartment. The constant thumping was beginning to drive me insane, plagued with migraines and sleepless nights one night I had enough. I plugged in my old computer speakers and sub, and did my very best to drown out his music without being completely inconsiderate to my really great neighbors who lives next to me. After three songs from Tom Petty's Anthology he felt wronged. He stormed up my stairs slamming his pathetic fist on my door.
"Do you really think it's necessary to play your music that loud"?
"Just trying to drown out yours dude"
"Yeah Well' you've been stomping around for two weeks"
"Um I moved in less than a week ago, and I've been moving"
"No you fucking haven't"
I laugh "Um yeah I have".
"I'm only going to be here for another two months, so is it going to be a good two months of a bad two months".
"Your funny guy"
He stormed off furious, I was amused and flabbergasted with his threat. What a hypocrite, and what a horrible debating skills. A. You live below me B. I deal with your music at 3 AM C. You clearly are a sociopath.
After this encounter I have never been face to face this neighbor again, however we have had wall wars. Or he has had directed anger at me through the wall by means of banging, horribly obnoxious music, and simulated war sounds. On one occasion I was vacuuming at 7 pm before my close girlfriend came over for dinner, neighbor douche decided that this was not acceptable and began to punch the wall repeatedly. Yet he plays his music incessantly it rocks my floors and vibrates in my ears, there becomes a point when you not only hear sound but you feel it. I'm at the point. He plays call of Duty ALL DAY from 8am-4pm and then it's either music or more call of duty from their on out. He has not respect, he is ill-mannered, ill-tempered and I feel like he is purposely driving me to the point of insanity. Between the constant grenade explosions that vibrate in my ears and cause my jaw to clench and the machine gun spray I feel like I am living in a war zone and am at risk for developing PTSD(I joke). After he complained about my stomping I have been especially conscious of the fact that there is someone that lives below me, this is a shoes off house with carpet everywhere, I don't run my dishwasher late, but I think this may all change. I've been tiptoeing around for this asshole because I don't want him to retaliate or make the bass louder however I don't see what else I can do to maintain my sanity. As I can feel the machine gun's rounds resounding in my temples I feel like taking a sledgehammer to the floor more purposely to my neighbors speaker set.
