Just to let you know that moving away from some horrible neighbors seemed like a drastic thing to do. We put up with some loud and obnoxious neighbors when we rented. Finally, we moved to another state and an entirely different kind of neighborhood. Interestingly the rent was the same but the neighbors were extremely nice. We went from tiptoeing around so the guy downstairs wouldn't stand outside and scream at us, nosy people and a continually squalling brat to the new place where people greeted us and brought us cookies and helped us unpack.
There really are places that have nice people. It takes a lot of time and possibly a major move, but we finally found happiness. Some neighborhoods just seem to attract loads of people with low standards. Unfortunately others have to live with trash like them.
Good luck to all of you!

Just a heads up. I moved away from a noisy, crime-filled city neighborhood to a beautiful peaceful village in Vermont. At first everything was great. The new neighbors brought us homemade pies and offered to babysit the kids. We couldn't believe how beautiful and peaceful everything was.
Then we started hearing it. The eerie music. It started one night when the moon was full. It seemed to be coming from the Old MacGowan Place, a ramshackle mansion set back in the woods on the edge of town.
One night, my husband and I noticed flickering lights coming from a room on the first floor. Everyone said the place was deserted. What could possibly be going on in there?
Overcome by curiosity, my husband and I crept through the brambles and weeds and up to the window. Faint music came from inside and that eerie flickering light.
We peered through the grimy window and inside, to our horror, we saw the townspeople, all of them! When we saw what they were doing, we shrieked in terror, but it was too late to escape. For now we, too, are among them. Unable to resist we walk with leaden feet to the Old MacGowan Place when the moon is full and join the other damned souls as we watch Dancing With the Stars.

Great to read your post original poster! Right now I am really unhappy where I live, my next door neighbor is making my life hell with his dog that continually barks, his radio at full blast and other stuff which is too longwinded to start banging on about. I have been in touch with the realtors and house is going up for sale very soon. I hope to move to a completely different area of the country and start afresh. It gave me hope to read your post so thank you! :) I hope your happiness continues and grows where you are.

I'm glad my post is giving you some hope for a better future. Thanks for your good wishes.
An addendum... a family member just bought a house in an old part of town where people work hard at preserving the history and architecture. I was nicely surprised when the neighbors came pouring over on the day the house was purchased and they were all helping and talking about actual BLOCK PARTIES and dinners that they had!!! I didn't think this ever happened anymore!
So keep the faith... you're a nice person and you deserve a quiet and happy home. It does happen! =)
