I know this might be minor compared to some of the problems you guys are having, but I got to get this off my chest.

I have a neighbor and she is a some-what retired divorced 48, with grown kids that don't live home. I had one small child she adored him, so "Lucy" and I got close as friends. One Time Lucy needed to take a trip out of state due to "family issues". Lucy asked me and my small son to go with her because she was scared to travel alone. Being concerned, I took the time off from work without pay to go with her. I had a little mileage deal on my credit card so I offered to buy her ticket, I think she may have "misunderstood" she did not reimburse me or "forgot". We secured a hotel room with two twin beds and we decided to split the cost. When we reached to the town, before checking into the hotel, we went into a diner. Lucy apparently traveled with out cash only credit card. The diner did not have any automated card service so I picked up the tab. At the hotel desk Lucy had the nerve to protest we should split the cost in three because of my three year old son, she said he was a person and should count in all fairness. But, he would be sleeping with me on my twin bed anyway so whets fair about that??!!??.
Fine, the next day my son and I noticed a park activity for kids across the street from the hotel. Lucy didn't want us to go there just yet, she wanted to go into the city to do her business first, which made sense. While we were in the city she did nothing that looked like business to me, except going into lots of magazine shops, browsing into stores and going into places only she wanted to go. In the cabs Lucy wanted to split the cost in three, at this point I told her my son was sitting on my lap and its not fair, she ignored me with her smile and would only gave the driver her "portion" of the fee. Our friendship got sour by the third day of this hell trip. Lucy would constantly criticize how I fed, bathe, and took care of my son and began to compare when she had hers at his age. Everyday my son would whine because we never made it to the park, I would convince him we would go later. One day Lucy wanted us to go and find a nice salon for her to do her hair, I told her go ahead my son and I will stay behind at the hotel and go across the street to the park. She said No, we are all on this trip together, no splitting up. The fourth day I told Lucy I had to leave and go home, because I did not feel well and felt uncomfortable with this whole trip, cutting short the trip one day. I told her she can stay the last day by her self, but I must leave. You know she did not take this to well. When we got back home Lucy had not spoken to me. When I got back to work I found out a higher job vacancy was open and to be filled immediately. But because I was out those days I did not get a chance to apply and interview for this promotion which I was very qualified for. One day I saw Lucy outside so I decided to break the ice, I complimented her flowers, she said thanks and would say nothing again. Its been like this for 11 months now. What a waste how does anyone feel about this?

Hi there,
OH I'm sorry for your trouble with Lucy.
She sounds like a sorry cheap friend I used to have.
I had a friend that made over 75,000 a year and was cheaper than anyone I've ever met in my whole entire life.
We took a trip, many trips out of town and I always paid my own way. Even the dinner tip was split right down the middle.
The last trip we took, I offered to have my husband drive us to the airport (so we didn't have to pay parking fees) She ignored my offer, drove her car and when the weekend was over she made me split the 25$ parking fee. I was fit to be tied and recently gave up on our relationship.
Not only was she a cheapskate, she was a Miss Know It all and always had to be the center of attention.

Don't worry about Lucy, be thankful she is out of your life, go out and meet some new friends who will appreciate you for who you are.
Since I broke up with my friend, my life is Stress Free.

I think you should forget her, you may have found out the hard way but at least now you know what kind of person she is....self-centered.
