Ya, i trimmed the trees that lay on the property line, but i got his permission. I did it when he was not home, when he saw what was done, he called the cops to have me charged with tresspassing on his property. then when that did not work out to the result he wanted, he calls the building inspector regardind a deck that i built. i did not get a permit for it, and really did not have too. to top it all off, the by-law department told me to take my fence down on the front yard, because someone complained. that fence had been there since before i moved in this house. i am eating alot of crow with this old bastard and i am not getting any help from the police, the city councillors and i would have to get a lawyer to stop, which i dont have money to buy thier time. this guy is really old and sick, but just to make sure i get some retaliation, i had a complaint filed with the by-law to take his shed down, because its to close to the property line. they wont make him do it, the city of Toronto have people, who know people, to make sure this old bastard does not have to do want i am complaining about. Yet, they have no problem making me do what he had complained about. they just make you comply with the orders they send you. this old bastard had called them over and over again to make sure that i comply with the orders, so that he and his wife could leave to go to Florida, in the sunshine state. he is a snow bird, comes back and shits on everything. i have smaller kids and they are scared to go out in their own backyard, because of this prick.
i have lived here for eight years, never an issue, even the police have that recorded, yet this old bastard just would not let it go. all i did was trim, TRIM!, trees, i did not cut them to the ground, i should have.

You can talk to an attorney who usually gives free initial consultation. If the neighbor is continually harassing you, it might be grounds for a restraining order. If he's lying to public officials about you, that's a serious offense.
I know it sounds expensive to get an attorney, but consider the peace of mind that you and your family might get by having legal power behind you. At the very least, the attorney could let you know what you can and can't legally do to protect yourself. It may be money well spent.
I have a nasty neighbor bitch next door who likes to call the cops on me when she's in a bad mood, which happens about every two weeks. I finally had a mediation at the local police department and they told her to stop. I wasn't doing anything wrong but she invented things like I was trying to poison her dog (she didn't have one). The police got alerted that she was a bitter old hagfish and finally stopped responding to her calls.

Pay a good arsonist to take care of his home when he's away.
