This is what we call our neighborhood these days..."the over-priced trailor park". I can not even begin to start with the dysfunction that goes on around here. Have you ever had neighbor come over and ask why you put up window blinds...becuase now she feels like you are shuting her out of your life? Didn't think so. Or when you are gone for a day or two and your neighbor (a different one) leaves voicemails expressing her concern that you did not tell them where you were going? Or another neighbor that hired a red-neck crew to cut down a tree in MY backyard becasue she did not like it? Or how about furniture if the neighbors yard? No...not lawn furniture but inside furniture that just suits thie fancy to leave out in the driveway. When we lived downtown in a big city, where is density is higher, and the odds of strangeness is more in your favor, we never had this. So is this today's surburbia? If so, I want out. Signed, "The fish in the fishtank"

I can relate really easy to the weirdness of suburbia. I wrote the post "God Willing The Whole Complex Will Catch Fire" and my neighboors are weird and complete derelicts, and we live in an area that is the richest and "nicest" outside of Houston Texas. I'd trade all the crap I deal with here for the big city's noise, high rent rates, and crime rates anyday over staying here. We had two murderers break into our complex and end up breaking into an apartment to hide from them and this is a gated complex! You don't see that happening at downtown apartments because their security is better. If you can get out Fishtank, then do it, cause I'm trapped here and have no option, and the stress of living here has driven me to therapy because I can't take being around these people anymore and can't control my animosity towards them at this point. Seriously, if you can get out, run as far away as you can and as fast as you can because if they are already this weird, it's only going to get weirder. But I completely understand and relate to everything you're saying Fishtank.

Out here in the countryside, where the nearest neighbor is around five kliks down the road, we fight about the placement and/or mainainance of fences, "easement" rights, tresspassers, poachers or otherwise encroachers on private property. We fight with the county about mainaining roads and where exactly the fire districts extend among myriad other squabbles. It is my observation that we humans are a contentious lot and the tighter we are squeezed together the more litigious, discordant, obstreperous, contumelious, belligerent, forensic and perfidious we become. When we have all become multi-millionares(at least), in the grand fulfillment of the "American Dream", we will have a staff of lawyers(or maybe even private armies) to contend with our aggravations and antagonists to our heart's content. Until that time,I suppose, we will have to content ourselves with the admonition of Rodney King when he plaintively asked: "Can't we all just get along?"

To the person in therapy... Maybe you should cancel therapy, save the extra cash, and move to a better place.
