I have observed that private personal property is regarded by your neighbors in <I>inverse</I> proportion to how you regard it yourself. If you try to keep it immaculate, your neighbors will go quite a bit out of their way to make sure their animals are focused upon your yard with their needs. If you try to keep the neighborhood children out of your yard, their parents will make a point of looking the other way while their kids tear up your landscaping, playing in your yard. <I>Especially</I> when you aren't at home to come out and chase them off yourself. <P>It is useless to try to get help from the police until the actual damge is done, and then it is obviously too late.</P> If you let nature take its course, if you become preoccupied with matters other than your yard care, the neighbors hypocritically invoke any city ordinance they can find to take you to task for your horrible crime of yard "neglect".<P> In general, people suck.</P> My next move will be to the fortress of solitude.

I know what you're saying. I escaped out into the country and it's so peaceful and quiet out here. I now live in the middle of 160 acres with no neighbors for miles. Gone are all the hassels with living in the burbs. Hope you too can escape. Good Luck!!!

<P> "Gone are all the hassels with living in the burbs."</P> - Hello to the hassels of plowing your mile long driveway to the main road. Hello to the hassels of trying to get the county to maintain the "main road". Hello to the hassel of asking/cajoling/threatening your neighbors to maintain their fences so their livestock doesn't destroy your garden/kill your chickens/trample your yard. Hello to keeping tresspassers/poachers off your property uninvited, sometimes at gunpoint, because it takes county sheriff HOURS to arrive, if he shows up at all. Country living isn't all its cracked up to be. Original poster is right. In general, most people suck.

If it takes hours for the Sheriff to show up, don't call the Sheriff, just shoot the bastards.

You must live right next to my disgusting neighbors. Sorry pal, I know exactly how you feel though. People do suck. They suck and suck and they almost drive you to do very rash and dangerous things in retaliation. We've taken the solitude road though. We're looking for a house in the country with as much space as possible from any loser neighbors. I give up trying to work things out or be mature or nice. All you can do is move. There is no hope.

It really sucks.

All of this talk is hilarious! We are moving because of our asshole neighbors. And your right about the inverse-proportion rule: we keep our yard well-groomed and orderly and our asshole neighbors have plastic jungle gyms, baby strollers, toys, old tools, and a broken, swaying fence in their yard. We can't wait to get the &*(% out of here. But, the funny part is that we also want to move to the country, and we were thinking about what problems we might encounter. We thought about hunters, assholes on quads (spell?, and snowmobiles, but we didn't think about livestock, and poachers, and the mile driveway to clear! Ha! Ha! Earth is a prison and we are all looking for cells to live in. Is there anywhere to live on this earth and not deal with disrespectful, delusional, rude, and selfish people? I don't think so. It's truly ashame that people have become so self-centered and think of no one; except themselves.

I moved to the country and have about 30 ares between me and a and a psychotic neighbor. Oh how I wish some room were preventative. So far: shot and poisoned animals, threats with guns and gestures, stalking, dumping chemicals in garden, trying to poison pets not poisoned, shooting the trees branches, leaving dead things in the yard. Don't think a big space around you will insulate you from the ass crack neighbor.
