I hate my neighbors. I am so pissed off right now because of the loud party next door that I typed "I hate my neighbors" into google.com and this site was the first that came up. I need to vent. Seriously, where the hell do these assholes come from? Why are there so many bad neighbors out there? We complained the the landlord about one of our neighbors- it helped for about 2 weeks. I'll take these assholes to small claims court to make them shut up if I have to.

We live in a trendy part of Washington, DC. Our apartment building is beautiful (1920's), but the walls are surprisingly thin for a building built in the 20's. Our apartment runs along most of the length of the building and we share the long side of it with people who are extremely loud and inconsiderate. In the front we share a wall with people who can only be described as trailer trash. Despite the high rents in this area, none of these people appear to have jobs and they stay up late playing their music and talking loudly. My husband and I were woken up one night at around 3 AM by a fight between our front neighbors that included the woman yelling "Nigger bus driver" at the man and him calling her a "little peice of shit." This little exchange was repeated for about 30 minutes. We think she is a stripper, but he appears to have no job at all (not sure where that bus driver comment came from). Lovely people. Then there was the b**** that sanded an entire dining room set in the alley with an electric sander every Saturday and Sunday (all day) for 2 months. That was FANTASTIC.

The party next door just keeps on going. Why the f*** don't these people have jobs? It just pisses me off because my husband and I work long hours (he is an engineer and I am a law student) and we need sleep/relaxation. Must be nice not to do anything all day and still manage to keep a roof over one's head... ASSHOLES.

Apparently you have never been to DC aside from the Monument. DC may be the crime capital of the US but it is also one of the highest priced areas to live in. Apartments start at $900 for a studio if you want to live in a decent area. As for your statement, "no one works there", what drugs are you on? Apparently you slept through government class (if you went to school in the US).

As a law student you should be aware you can't make a petty claim for noise...that is an ordinance issue. Trying to get a sympathetic hearing from a greedy landlord or a distracted cop is another issue altogether....
Soon you will realize - ALL people are idiots. We are ALL(at least occassionally)inconsiderate - intentionally, thoughtlessly, casually.
Shit happens. Mistakes are made.
It is easiest to live by yourself out in the hinterlands - but the drawbacks are obvious and the inconveniences must be thought through and isolation is an acquired taste.....
For a pair of "go-getters" like you and your mate, country life would most likely proove your worst nightmare.
Easiest remedies are the most obvious - move.

Me too! I typed "I hate my neighbors" into Google and found this site. My neighbors have a dog that shits and pisses in my yard and on my flowers and bushes. This has been going on since Sept 1999 and I tried calling them and pleading with them over and over but they are white trash and just don't care. There is a leash law in our town but they don't care about that either. So I finally started calling the police every time it happened. I've called the police so many times over the past couple of years that they are now taking the neighbors to court. I hope this will be the end of it but I have a feeling they are the "revenge" type.

Fence, fence, fence or better - wall, wall, wall.
Establish some boundaries.
Next -
Outdoor, all-weather, infra red capable, motion activated(for auto applications - while you are away, asleep, etc.) vid cam w zoom lense and joy stick control (X4+); closed circuit to dedicated vid recorder & (X4+)monitors(in case you want to watch the landscape yourself).
You WILL catch anyone trespassing, their at- large, defecating animals, and/or anyone attempting to vandalize your property AND have the evidence to take them to court & MAKE THEM PAY.
Now all you need is around $2LARGE to get started....

AN additional idea: the act of building a wall or erecting a fence, of installing surveillance apparatus, even of changing your locks could be enterpreted by a court as an example of "mental distress" caused by the actions of underhanded and/or devious neighbors.
If you can't afford expensive video camera surveillance, at least keep notes on their activity regarding you, you might be able to establish that there is a pattern of harrasment(menacing, stalking) instigated by your neighbors, in which case you can get a restraining order.
Perhaps you can create enough contention that they will move away.
Perhaps it might be easier for you to move.
Weigh your options and, above all, be truthful with yourself.
