I wish you were my neighbor, you sorry assed fucking bitch, you wouldn't stay long enough to even think about planting thorn bushes. Get a life, but get it someplace like mabe in one of the third world countries.
The problem with thorn bushes is very nearly that of surrounding your property with barbed wire: If you don't live in the country and thereby have a demonstrable NEED for such a barrier, people will think you are unsociable, and resent your desire for privacy, some to the point of aggression(like the first respondent).
Additionally, you could be legally culpable for whatever damage or injury your thorn bushes cause, and liable to pay damages for negligence or even willful injury.
Probably not a good idea.
Interesting comments about that people will think that we're unsociable and that they will resent our desire for privacy. I never thought about how other people would view a thorn bush fence because it does not bother me. I would just take an educated guess and think that the people wanted their privacy. Great for them. Wonderful for us. However, the concept of others resenting our need for privacy is confusing to say the least. I truly don't understand what you mean. Will you give some examples? Why would others resent our need for privacy? We don't resent theirs. I hope that the tone of this post does not sound sarcastic because it is not meant to be. I truly would like and appreciate a response.
Actually, one could line the property with rose bushes. A lot of people grow them. Lovely to look at, but thorny as well. Then you wouldn't be percieved as anti social.
You might read message 898 for starters. This is not an atypical response.
I know of an elderly couple who put up a privacy fence(no barbs - no spikes) when they moved into a neighborhood which haad previously been wide open spaces. The neighors were incredulous that they could be so - standoff-ish....
"What-" - the gregarious neighbors wondered collectively - "-what are they trying to hide?"
The fence became something of an object of wonder and speculation. The neighborhood children, acting on comments overheard from their parents, began to linger around the fence, peering through the gaps to glimpse - - what?
Achieving exactly the opposite of the intended effect, the "privacy' fence incited intense interest.
Roses or Russian Olive, if the thorns of YOUR vegetation hook the flesh or damage the clothing of the wrong would-be Peeping Tom, you can be liable for damages, belive it or not.
Great idea. We were actually thinking about that. Some rose bushes grow wild, thick, wide, and leggy. :)
It is also interesting that we could be held liable. We didn't know that. It seems unreasonable since it would be others who are trespassing. Thank you.
We just want to be left alone. We don't want people coming over and talking to us. We got burned in the neighborhood were are currently living in. It is just easier to not talk to anyone; therefore, we don't have to feel ill-at-ease trying to be diplomatic. It is very difficult to be nice without being rude. It is much easier to plant thorn bushes. Anti-social really is listed in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders which means one who kills small animals, rapes, abuses, does not have a conscience, and ends up in jail. Well anyway, I still don't understand why some people will resent our need for privacy. We just want to be left alone to our own activities and life. My God, why do some people have to be in everybody else's business. Why can't some people just live their own lives and leave others alone. I just don't understand. Actually, living on an island sounds great--there would be no people their to invade on our privacy. We would choose when we want or need to interact with others such as when it is a necessity, medical, dental, groceries, vet., etc. Wow, did we get burned. I must sound like a really mean person. I'm not. I'm just angry. And I learned a lesson. But, I need to learn how to get along when others offend me. Does anyone have any suggestions? Books? Topics? Categories?
I've always enjoyed the thought of living in the middle of a 500 acre woods. Just family and nature.
Remember the story about the robber who fell through a woman's skylight and landed on a cutting knife? He sued her and he won. (It's mentioned on the movie Liar Lair a little.) It's the same thing. I know it's crazy, but you are liable for damage even though they are trespassing.
All nosey neighbors and spitefull ones should die. I hate mine sooooooo much!!!!!!!!!! I can't wait to get even. =)
