Discovering Your Mother's Not A Saint

My mother growing up was sanctimonious, conservative, no sex till your 29, cross your legs, not that shirt, no two piece bikinis, don't ever suck a guy, wait until marriage, get pregnant as soon as you're married, not that boy, etc., etc., etc.

She grew up in Cincinnati, my grandfather was a banker and they lived in the big house on the hill. She and her sisters went to Catholic school, girls only. They were all good girls, nuns. Well.

In a box, in her closet behind another box, when we had the house painted we found some black and white pictures. The girls were all 14 or so, pictures of each of her and her classmates with her legs open and no pants or panties. Very heavy bush on these girls, mostly Italian girls, smirks, hands over their faces, some with their tits out. 13 different girls. I know most of them, all ladies now, grandmothers.

Who took the pictures? Why they took them? Why did my mother keep them? After the house was painted I put all the pictures back in their box and put the box back in the closet, behind the box that kept them out of sight. And there they are, to be discovered by someone maybe. And they can enjoy young girls showing off their intimacy to each other.

A beautiful story about that blurred Venn diagram of the turbulent confluence of adolescence which includes youthful innocence, the inexorable biological drive for experimentation, and looming adulthood.

We hope that, since you are such a wonderful storyteller, you'll regale us with the tales of your own experiences, and that of you sharing the discovery of the photographs with your mother and the laughs and stories you share.

Thank you, Gabriela!
