My Early Discovery Of What I Am
Growing up I had an uncle and aunt and a same age cousin. To me they were just there. It was only later when I was high school did I learn that my aunt, my father's baby sister, had to get married. My uncle was a military man when she got in trouble while on a trip to San Diego. My aunt was 17, my age, and my uncle 25. My grandfather was very persuasive and my uncle asked for a discharge to get married.
When I was 18, a year after learning about how my cousin came around, I was at my uncle's shop helping to empty out the back of the storage room. Stuff my aunt said, old stuff. In one paper portfolio I found a dozen charcoal nude males, in aggressive poses. Sketches of what I would later learn was homoerotic art. Very homo, very erotic, I hid the portfolio and took it home with me when I got chance.
Over the next years, alerted by the sketches in his store room, I observed the company he kept. Very careful, but obviously gay. And his assistant was definitely gay. No one talked about it, my uncle and his friends were welcome in my family's homes. When one day he put his hand on my thigh I jumped back which angered him. I was convinced he had an interest in me. On the other hand I would take out those sketches and masturbated to them. I held them, drawing my finger across their phallic erections. I was mesmerized.
After college, in New Orleans for my first sales convention, a man I met drew me into a conversation, dinner, Bourbon Street, drinks and his room. His erection was impossible to ignore I held it nervously in my hand thinking of those sketches, and drawn by an unknown force I put his erect penis in my mouth. He took my penis, managed to bring me into an erection, worked my erection in his mouth, undressed me and undressed himself, and without resistance from me he took my virginity. I spent the night with him.
It was a pickup for him, a guy at a convention. For me it was a frightening realization. Returning home I tossed the sketches in the dumpster of the apartment complex where I lived. From then when I was back home I saw my uncle with other eyes.
Little by little I became more and more willing to go out with a guy, to engage in sex, develop a liking for this one guy or that one. To appreciate my uncle's double life, to recognize that my aunt's sex life was outside the home. My cousin was and us oblivious. There is no doubt in my mind that my aunt's husband was gay. He passed last year from a premature heart issue.
I regret now tossing those sketches away. I miss them.
