Where are you getting 9% from? Drug companies usually claim there's a 1% risk, and that's only to cover their ass if the unlikely happens.
Don't know what source that poster used, but a quick Google search will show the failure rate to be 8-9% for first time users (less than a year) and dropping down to 1-3% after that *when used perfectly*. If you miss a pill, get off schedule or tale other medications that decrease efficacy (antibiotics can do this in some women) then the failure rate will be higher.
And of course, the pill does nothing for preventing STDs.
