A Young Wife's Take On Marriage To A Much Older Man

I've just 'celebrated' my 20th anniversary. At least some people celebrated. I never wanted to get married, an unplanned pregnancy but I won't say unwanted. Once pregnant I embraced my pregnancy. I was carried away by the shove of family, friends and neighbors. I was at my most uncertain the day I got married.

Once put in the house of my husband, moved physically, my name taken away substituted by his, my life, wellbeing in his hands I became his wife. His with a capital H. But the pregnancy called for me to put those feelings aside. Once the baby was in my arms, the reality of dependency sunk in, grateful for a man who stood by his wife and child providing both shelter and sustenance. It became my time to accept my fate and move on.

We had two more children, each child wanted to help shape and grow my family. My life became one of hearth and home, surrounded by women, both young and old who embraced that lifestyle. So here I am celebrating 20 years wi5h a man I barely knew, who took my path from me, took me from my family to his, more a father than my father. A young wife, I sat beside him as both a wife and daughter.
