My Latino Culture, It's In Our DNA
I have a thing for big men with macho attitude. I can't run far enough away from my Latino roots. my husband is all that and more. He's strong willed, big to me, tall and strong. Beard but no body hair. What my Anglo friends don't get, I don't mind at all serving him, or housework. My husband doesn't do dishes or laundry.
It's how I grew up. My Abuela, and my mother were fast with the tongue or a slap on the hand, 'serve him', 'don't let him do that, aren't you embarrassed?' Latino men are spoiled, and we love spoiling them. I don't get the oil changed or mow the lawn. Now here we are, in the kitchen, four generations of women, it's time to teach my eight year old the ways of women in the house. Men, and boys, are not allowed.
I was a lucky one, went to a very good University, met and married my husband there. He gave me my married name, Delgado, nothing 'delgada' about me. I'm his 'gordita', he would never be attracted to a skinny girl, skinny girls don't keep men warm at night. Fortunately no one here dares say Latinx, it's an insult. We have big family parties, the men barbeque, the women cook the beans. The boys play soccer and the girls help their mom's and abuelitas with the table and learn to cook.
It's our culture. We aren't giving it up. I would never have it any other way.
